Slow download connection

Hi to all, My internet is driving my crazy. I have a g5 dual 2.0 1.5 RAM OS X 10.4.11 and SBC wireless connection and the download rate is around 50 kb/sesc. SBC came to check the connection and the connection is fine, even stronger than is suppose to be. I noticed that the airport signal goes up and down but I dont know if its something that I can do myself to make it faster on my end. any ideas?
