On my computer in the Photo area I have almost 14000 pictures stored in albums. If you go to the top of the listing under Library there is a heading for just "photos". If I were to delete a photo out of there due to maybe it being a duplicate what would happen to the same photo in the album it was stored in? Is it best to not delete anything from the "photos" area? I am running an IMAC Retina 4k late 2015 with 3.1 GHZ Quad Core with 8GB memory with MAC OS 10.15.3.

Images in Albums are links to the original in Photos area. Delete anything from the latter and they disappear from any albums they were in. Images in Albums are NOT duplicates.

Hi and welcome.

Albums are of your own creation (unless created by Photos, by default). They contain a link to the original in "Photos", so no duplication, no extra storage needed.

Deleting a picture from within an Album does just that. The original in "Photos" remains.

But deleting a picture from within "Photos" removes it from the database. Luckily, Apple recognises that people make mistakes, so the deleted item is placed in the "Recently Deleted Trash" bin, shown in the sidebar.

Does this explain things adequately for you? If not, ask.

BTW - I've been trying to post this for the last 12 hours without success.

Ian
