I am having a problem transferring Photo library to my new Macbook Pro.

I have 13,000 + photos in Photos in my 2008 MacBook running El Capitan in the Photo Library.
I bought a new MacBook Pro and just downloaded Mojave. I have my old MB backed up on external hard drive using Time Machine.
I migrated just the documents from the hard drive Time Machine and only 414 of the 13,000 + photos were imported.
I got a "Cannot Import Items These items cannot be added to your Photo library because the file format is not supported by Photos?

I only wanted the documents and Photo library to be imported and all I got were photos from 2016 and 2017, all of the documents transferred. All the older and newer photos didn't transfer. All the photos in old MB are in the Photo library. The current photos are from my Iphone 7 (they didn't transfer) and the older ones are from several different older cameras and phones.

What do I need to do to get the rest of the Photo Library to transfer?

I ended up wiping the new MBP clean as the setting changed to how they are on the old MB. All I want on the new MBP is just the Photo library and some document, nothing else. What is the best/essayist way to do this?

Hopefully problem solved. I will use Icloud to do the transfer by buying more storage.

Just use your subject for a Google search and it provides all kinds of hints, at least it did for me:
Transfer Photos from Old Macbook to New Macbook Pro
https://www.google.com/search?q=Tra...7j69i60j0l2.3410j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Or modify the search phrase a bit if needed.

Sorry I'm not being more helpful and Apple's iPhoto/Photos and how they do things is not my favorite by a long shot. Nor Time Machine.

Went to Apple Store and tech found the problem. I had 2 copies of Photo Library and the one with the photos on it was in the Application folder. For some reason the other Photo Library was not working. I am at Apple doing the transfer right now and hopefully it will transfer now.

That's good to hear, and I hope you get ALL your photos back and working as you expect.

I wonder how your photos folders got into the applications folder??? Gremlins or somebody mucking about perhaps???

Photos now works. All 14,500+ photos are on new MBP.
Thanks to the tech at Apple for finding the glitch.
I think the Photos Library got moved there when IPhoto changed to Photos. I had some issues with the change over. I must of did something wrong during the switch to Photos.

That's good to hear, and thanks for the feedback.

Now for the reminder to make sure you have a current backup. So please excuse any nagging!!! :Smirk:
