Good morning!

I recently deleted all the photos on my iPhone X, deciding to get it more organized.

I used Photos to create 10 or so albums and painstakingly transferred photos from external HD's and thumb drives to the albums I created in Photos (not one of my favorite Apple programs).

I then used iTunes (another program I dislike), clicked photos in the sidebar, and then clicked on just the albums I wanted to place on the iPhone. We are talking about 450 photos in number.

When I then looked on my iPhone, many of the photos did NOT transfer....older photos, many were scanned from prints, (saved as jpegs) and some of these were the most important ones I wanted to have with me.

I even went back through this morning and re-named the .jpegs that did not transfer to the cellphone to just .jpg; did another Sync, and that did not work either.

Needless to say, the frustration levels are getting high here.

Any suggestions?

When I did a search on this, of course several "programs" that guarantee EASY transfers popped up, but I could not locate any solid answers...hence, I came here. I am not against using a third party program, but so many of them out there just do not perform all that well, I thought I'd come to the most reliable place I've found to get some answers. :)

Thank you!

Cheers!

Pat

The only third party iOS transfer and organizer program that I recommend is "iMazing 2". They have a free trial that is fully functional so that you can test to see if it will transfer all your photos and not just selected ones that iTunes seems to want to do.

If you like the program and don't mind paying for it, I suggest going to the Macworld Magazine store and purchase it from there. The price will be much less.

And by the way, I agree with you about iTunes; it has become almost worthless in my opinion.

Thanks, Charles!

I appreciate the suggestion. I am getting weary of some of these built-in programs that won't let you do simple things (like drag it from here and drop it over here....done).

I'll take your suggestion and head over to the MacWorld Magazine store right now.... I don't mind paying for programs that work! :) It's just that why don't the software 'engineers' at Apple just leave things that work alone and they keep changing them to make them either impossible to find out HOW to do something without coming here first or what USED to work in a program just doesn't work like it used to anymore?

Sorry for the rant...I guess the frustration levels I hit when trying to move half a dozen photos from Photos to iPhone X and it just wouldn't work no matter what I did are still with me. ;-)

Cheers, Charles!

UPDATE!

Charles!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.......

........for your recommendation on acquiring the iMazing program! 30 minutes after your recommendation, I was able to import the photos that iTunes would NOT import to my phone. This program also does backups, allows you to SEE your iPhone much like finder does...and all for a paltry cost of $19.95 (US). It is normally priced at $79.95 so downloading it from Macworld Mag saved a bunch.

On a side note, I tried to give you a thumbs UP but a little pop-up box told me I need to spread some thank you's around before I can up vote you again. I tried! :)

Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback Pat and I'm glad you got iMazing at the special sale price and I would have suggested the same thing and I completely agree with you and your comments and your Apple rant, but I dare say that iMazing can do better than what Apple might have come up with anyway. Apple would probably claim doing so would be some sort or security risk exposure!!! ;P ;P

Possibly God only knows what and why they do some things the way they do, but I'm sure He's also confused at times.

Hey Patrick!

I am glad you chimed in..it's always good to hear from you! :)

Yeah, I must admit with all my years here I've never really ranted like that before.....but..to an older guy many of the moves Apple makes sometimes on their "updates and improvements" leaves me flummoxed. Alas, I am not the only one out here that feels that way.

And I am glad I am able to (and I dislike this term)... to give back a little to this forum that has bailed me out SO many times over the years.

When I was a 'geek', mid-70's to early 80's; probably when you hadn't even reached first grade and either green or yellow screens were all we had and CD:/ was KING... I was very comfortable with the technology (but 300 baud modems for communicating really sucked)..all was good until the GUI/windows came in. I kind of lost interest then when it was really hard to write your own 'fixes' for stuff.......well....I don't want to go down that road.

Suffice it to say that there are several people here, Charles, Harry; Pigoo (lots of others too) [and of course, you are in in that group] that bother to come on here and help out people like me when technology is racing ahead but we are starting (or continuing) to chill out a little because we've BT and DT. (Been there, done that). :) The least we can do is let y'all who help us out know that you are doing a great service for us....and it is really appreciated.

Thanks for saying HI....

....and to any others out there that have been having difficulties communicating with your iPhones for photos, songs...the program mentioned above, iMazing, is something you should look at if you want SO much more CONTROL over your peripherals and you can ditch iTunes and probably several other programs for something that works very, very well and looks very nice too...a plus! And for $19.95?; the cost of a high end cup of coffee and a couple of bagels? It's what Id' call a NO-brainer! And it lets you do so many cool things...print out text conversations, add or delete photos or songs easily and lots of other stuff I haven't had time to play with .........yet. :)

Cheers, Patrick!

Pat (rick too). :)

I just thought that I should mention that iMazing is also still available (I think) with a MacBundle offer I got recently for $7.00 + the $5.00 bundle fee so about $12.00usd I guess:
https://bundlehunt.com
and of course the macworld offer that still seems to be valid for $20.00usd:

Charlie posted the same offer back in Oct 10,2018, so just in case others missed it and now need a copy, it's a very good deal.

I have always had difficulties in transferring photos from my iphone 8 to my computer, it gives me an error

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums, romancast

This is the opposite of what the thread started with, but no problem -

Can you tell us how you normally do this? And which OS does your Mac run?

I presume when you are trying to transfer photos, it is to the Photos app? Or do you have an older Operating System (OS) with iPhoto app?

In addition to the conventional way of transferring photos to your Mac, there is another Apple app called Image Capture which has more options as regards how and to where you import pictures to your Mac.

Answer the above and I'm sure we can help you.

Ian
