.org or .comI'm creating a website with wordpress. I am upgrading to a premium site for my jewelry design shop and want to be able to accept paypal and credit cards. Which is more appropriate, .org or .com?
Thanx,
Lo

These days the original intent/meaning of the domains are lost, but you should stick with .com or .co for companies and leave .org for organizations (traditionally non-profit).
Also realize that you will get more traffic to a .com (and .co in some cases) than to an .org site since it's instinctual for people to assume that every site ends in .com.--

Thanx, that's what I thought but wordpress offers a comparison and pros and cons of each which I thought was odd.
Also I understood that wordpress is supposed to be a pretty simple web builder but I have not found it to be. I have built a number of websites in iweb in the past without a problem. Unfortunately iweb, as you probably know is no longer viable and as far as I can tell.
02-06-2018, 10:13 PM #4Look at Wordpress itself. It started with the wordpress.org site which is for the free version of the self-hosted software. Whereas the wordpress.com site is their "commercial" version of the software that is their self-hosted (for free and commercial) version of the same software.
Anyway, wordpress is more of a blogging software to ease the writing of posts and can be customized with the themes. If you want to do a ton of custom work, then you have to be well versed with HTML technologies and that doesn't mean iWeb or similar tools.--

Yeah, for now iWeb works fine. However, iWeb is a 32 bit app and will likely die off when the next version of macOS is released and Apple kills off all 32 bit apps the same way they have with iOS.

From a seo perspective they are the same. There are a few differences and these are more linked to users themselves then actual search engines. Users associate .org with charities mostly but from a user perspective a .org with have more trust right off the bat than a com. However you run the risk of being identified as some kind of non profit organisation i would personally stick with .com. Im not sure if you have looked at targeting local aread with your website in which case you may want to look at more area specified extensions because for a website in seo these do make a ton of difference.

it really doesn’t matter much. It depends on what type of company or organization the domain will represent.
Those starting an online business or getting their personal name as a domain, should choose the .com extension. This works best for established companies, new companies, blogs, affiliate marketing and any other type of website.

07-03-2018, 08:40 AM #13The meaning of the top level domain is lost today, so you can use whatever is available. About the only thing that is truly restricted (in the US) is the .GOV TLD.
