Macbook Pro Mid 2010 to MacBook Pro 17
Hi everyone, I have an old 2010 MacBook Pro that is running High Sierra (as that's as new as it can go) and it's nearly dead.

I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2017 and am going to be setting it up soon (it's for my Wife's birthday in a few days).

I have an old external drive that I run as a Time Machine and I also have a old iPhoto library stored on there as well. I have just bought a new External HDD qith USB C to go with the new machine too.

My question is will my new machine recognize the old HDD as it is probably on an old OS when the new machine will be on Mojave? Can I just plug it into the new machines and transfer that iPhoto library straight across or will it be corrupted or something if I try that? I don't want to lose it.

    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to our forums.

As long as the old iPhoto library is stored on that drive as a separate file and not part of a Time Machine backup, you should be able to transfer it to the 2017 MacBook Pro. Take note that iPhoto is no longer supported by Apple, however, the old iPhoto library will be imported to the Photos library on the 2017.

And as long as the old external hard drive is good, it will be recognized by the newer MacBook Pro.
