Joined a MAC to a Domain - unsure how to login to the local admin account?
Hi, I'm new to the forums so firstly 'Hello!', and secondly I'm looking for a little help please, I've recently setup a new MacBook and have joined it to a domain, I now need to install a printer and it appears the Mac doesn't recognize our AD admin account as an admin, so I need to login using the account I originally created, I know the account name, and I 'think' I know the password but I'm not sure if it needs to be entered in a certain format, such as computername\user or user@computername, any ideas or help greatly appreciated, it may be I've forgotten the original password, in which case am I going to be looking at a rebuild?

No special format. Just login as per normal and you will be asked for your password (the one you originally setup). Enter the password making sure you keep upper and lower case as it was originally entered. That's all there is to it.

If you forgot your original password, post back and we'll tell you how to reset it. In the meantime you should always keep in mind that when you ask for help to provide us with details on your Mac and which version of OS X it's running.

thanks, in which case, I've definitely forgotten the password, the Mac in question is a MacBook Air running OS X mavericks, if you can advise on resetting the password please that would be greatly appreciated.

Have you merged OD (open directory) on the Mac with AD? I found a Mac server connected to a Windows server creates the best network setup.

    Also, try this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jLdg9yv1mZ8

    To reset your password:

Reboot your MBA by holding down the command and R keys at the same time. That will boot the machine to the Recovery partition. When there, select "Utilities", then select "Terminal". Once in Terminal type this: resetpassword and press enter. Follow directions.

Here's the instructions done graphically: LINK
