Question Antivirus and Anti Spyware once I get my MBP?
People will say, naaaah it is not needed, only 5% of people are at risk. That is still 5% though. Any good free protection for Mac? I have Avast and Spybot Search and Destroy on my PC.

I am a very paranoid person.

There is no one here that says 5% of OS X users are at risk. If it was that high, I think all of us would be using one. Sounds like av company propaganda to me.

In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

You're still living in a "Windows World"...viruses aren't a problem on Mac's (not sure where the 5% statistic is coming from).

Besides...you're going to buy a Windows laptop anyway after reading your other thread! If you get that Windows laptop...then YES...you WILL need antivirus protection!!!

First: True, there are no known virus' in the wild for OS X. Secondly, even if there were, you'd first have to give said fabled virus permission to run on your machine. This is usually accomplished by typing in your administrative password, associated with installing something or letting a script run.

Thirdly, if you don't surf carelessly or visit nasty places or download dangerous things on the intertubes, then technically, you shouldn't be worried about any of that stuff, even on a Windows machine! As far as malware and spyware goes, in the three years of owning my MacBook Pro's, I've yet to run into anything. I've also never had the need to run any such program associated with these things.

Ah, the good ol' Windows days, where half my time was wasted away for such tripe. (and I ain't talkin cow innards bub)
