Can't Sync/Backup in iTunes to iCloud or from iPhone to iCloud.

    1) What is the difference between syncing your iPhone 6+ running IOS 9.0.1 to the cloud in iTunes vs. doing an iCloud backup from Settings---->iCloud----->Backup?

    2) My iPhone will not back up to the cloud from the phone itself.

    I have a 2012 MBPro running Yosemite up-to-date.

    Thanks very much.

    Theoretically there is no difference.

Sent from my iPhone using Mac Forums.

So, if I can't back up to the cloud from my iPhone, then you're saying it's okay since I can do it from my computer in iTunes- correct?

I would agree with rod and your statements. Yes.
The benefit to the cloud is its on the move with you and you can back up away from your MBP. And that you can restore on the move--like if your phone is replaced at an Apple Store or you buy a new phone--
Otherwise you have to be with your laptop to restore any future iPhone to the last back up state.
If your still content with backing up only at your MBP-nothing wrong with it for lots of people- then you really don't need to read below this level.
You may be out of iCloud data (5gb is free I think) after a free level, you can pay for various higher tiered levels. There are some notorious drains on your iCloud space (photo reel at the top in my experience).

Good point raised by member "Ttaylor394". With large capacity iPhones available and most folks putting everything on their phones including the "kitchen sink", many users are rapidly running out of iCloud space and can not use it to back up. However, Apple has significantly lowered the price for storage so it would benefit you to increase your storage to where you can easily backup to the cloud.

I personally backup to my MBP which in turn is backed up to TM an CCC so I feel happy with that arrangement. Really in my location I would not even think of restoring "on the move" and as there are no Apple Stores here in Bali it's unlikely that my phone will be replaced or that I would suddenly buy a new one on the spur of the moment, but different courses for different horses.
