Rod, Life can be tough sometimes. It is a challenge as we age, Losing hair on top and growing hair where we didn't expect. But, I had a niece who at 17 had a colostomy. She's been wearing a bag ever since. She's 52 now. As a humanist and an optimist, my mantra has always been "Things could be worse". So many people have worse situations then I. I've been blessed with exceptional looks and humility. I was told by one professor my intellect was second to None. Fred None failed that class. But enough about me. Hope things work out for you.

Thanks Pete, like others I really appreciate all of the supportive comments I have received but I did not get a colostomy. I corrected this a few posts ago. I had a colonoscopy which came back with a diagnosis of advanced diverticulosis. Unfortunately the worst outcome could be a colostomy it is not at that stage yet and may never get that bad. I was a Registered Nurse when I retired, working as a community nurse in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and believe me I cared for a lot of clients with colostomies, ileostomies and urinary catheters so I do sympathise with your niece and wish her well with her obviously courageous attitude in living with that.
I totally agree that things can always get worse, I daily practice an attitude of gratitude for all the good things in my life and leave the rest up to god.
