Installed Win 10 on my iMac today from an iso file using bootcamp along with the support files. All installed ok but both windows and Mac OS are running very slow. I have installed previous windows versions on older machines in the past but never had these slow speeds. Has anyone else had this problem? I have now uninstalled it all just to get the Mac OS back up to speed.

What kind of drive does your 2019 iMac have? Is it an SSD, Fusion drive, or regular spinning hard drive and how large is it? And how much free space was there on the drive after the install of Windows 10 via Boot Camp? Keep in mind that Catalina is running with the APFS format whereas Windows 10 needs NTFS in order to run.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 1TB Fusion drive and after the install I had over 600 GB remaining. I originally tried installing to an ext hd formatted to NTFS but bootcamp wouldn't start until I had disconnected all usb storage devices. I had thought about reverting to Mojave but that uses the APFS system as well. I might do that anyway as I am not a big Catalina fan. If I can't load windows it isn't really a big deal I mainly wanted to try it because Microsoft app store has much more to offer than apple.

As you found out, neither MS or Apple supports installing Windows (any version) on external media. And unless you have 32 bit apps that are essential, reverting to Mojave may cause you more problems since it requires an erase and install which means restoring your data from backup.

As for the slowness you experienced, I can't explain it because it appears you had plenty of storage space on your Fusion drive. There have been some reports about Fusion drives and APFS but there really should not have been any significant slowdowns that you wrote about.

I'm also surprised to hear that you think the MS app store has more to offer than Apple.
