I am new to Mac, Used windows for many years, had to try Mac, bought a Mac Mini 2012, gets confusing to an old timer, but am slowly catching on, love it. I am in the process of installing Boot Camp, at this point it is downloading the Windows support software has been downloading all night and seem to have a long ways to go. How long should it take? I have 8 G ram 500HD i5 Intel, just want to make sure I am on the right track, Thanks,

If you have a broadband connection (cable, DSL, etc) and it's within the normal range of bandwidth for such connections (3Mb-25Mb), then no, this is not normal. It should download in less than an hour.

I would be looking to restart the process.

Last week, I got a MacBook Pro and Windows 8.1.
The Boot Camp process did not go smoothly. Apple Support was great, but they didn't know the answer to my issue for some time.
Eventually, they determined that Boot Camp partitioning can't work if the Hard Drive has Firevault encryption enabled.

So, don't try it unless you don't have Firevault enabled! Especially if you have a new MacBook (default for MacBook) but obviously for any Mac, you should format the HD and start over, if you have enabled Firevault. If you haven't touched a thing, then read the dialog boxes carefully when installing OS-X and uncheck Firevault.

I recently had the same problem. I searched Google and came up with this, which worked!

Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:

/usr/bin/drutil eject I USED JUST "DRUTIL EJECT" WHICH WORKED. IT DID TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO START AND EJECT THE DISC. MINE WAS AN EXTERNAL DRIVE.

If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

One thing that I find unclear:

I am hoping to install Windows10 64-bit on a Mid-2012 MBP. The help pages indicate it is compatible. It said I need a copy of Windows on an ISO and a USB Drive of at least 16 GB and not USB3. Got those.

However, when I selected the first option on Boot Camp Assistant, it used my USB Drive to make a bootable Windows USB drive instead of installing Windows directly from the ISO file on the Mac hard drive - so now I have no USB drive for the Windows Drivers. I thought the USB drive was to hold the drivers downloaded on the second stage in Boot Camp Assistant and that Windows would be installed directly from the ISO. The help pages imply that is the case.

Did I select the wrong option at some stage during the first option? It hasn't partitioned the drive yet.

Assuming you have a Mid 2012 rMBP (no optical drive), just follow the directions as given. The installer and drivers on the same USB flash drive should work. Let us know how it went.

That's a horse of a different color isn't it? Which is why we ask that you identify your Mac when posting. Your MacBook Pro has a DVD drive which probably means that without a work around you will be unable to install Windows 10 using a USB flash drive. You need to burn that Windows 10 iso to a DVD and install that way. The Boot Camp drivers can be placed on a flash drive and installed from there. That part is OK.

After spending some time backing up my MBP, Boot Camp installed quickly and easily

I did each stage separately. The first one converted the USB Drive to a bootable drive from the ISO. The second one downloaded the Boot Camp Drivers and added them to the same USB Drive. The third one prompted me to set the size of partition I wanted and then installed Windows. The only slight worry was when it said it could not use the BOOTCAMP partition. Then I remembered I needed to format it first. Fingers crossed that I had selected the correct partition and off it went. Windows 10 installs much more quickly than previous versions. Only need to work through two screens of "don't send this to Microsoft" options. I wish they would offer a "Disable all" option.

The only problem I have identified is that the Bluetooth Magic Mouse does not work in Windows, despite the fact that the Boot Camp drivers have all installed and it does say in Bluetooth that the mouse is identified and connected. I am having to use the trackpad at present.

Also, not certain the resolution is the same in both. The same wallpaper looks different in the two systems - might be a minor config change. At least the graphics are better than before the Boot Camp drivers installed so the drivers are working.

Only had a few minutes to try it so far. At least the installation process was smooth and quick. Needs more testing and of course it needs some AV

Edit - Incidentally, it made no attempt to use the DVD drive. Whether it would have done so if I had used a Windows DVD I don't know. I think I have needed to create an ISO from the DVD anyway

I reinstalled the Boot Camp drivers and the mouse now works.

Strangely it said "Unable to complete due to metered connection" when trying to re-pair it but then it started working anyway. I don't see how it needs an Internet connection to pair a Bluetooth device.

Also, the screen resolution is the same as in OS X - I assume the difference in wallpaper appearance is due to having defaulted to a different option for fitting the image on the screen.

Glad to hear everything worked out OK for you. Normally, when the Boot Camp Assistant "sees" an optical drive on your Mac it won't allow installation from USB without some sort of a work around. However, it looks like you got it installed anyway. Nice. Have fun.

Still having problems intermittently with the Bluetooth Magic Mouse, but apart from that - so far - all seems fine.

Wonder how well it will cope when I allow it to install the Anniversary Update, which is waiting at the moment

Now using the Mac version of the game I wanted to play - Final Fantasy XIV, although I have the Windows version installed as well

Even have a spare PS4 controller working on the Mac. Brilliant.

Also updated Windows to the Anniversary Edition, without seeming to cause any problems. Doesn't seem all that different.
