Thanks R. Yes of course, understood re research, but I have indeed done some; 1) Amazon products, 2) my local Apple shop and 3) Logitech themselves; before coming here.

The C920 was chosen after considering the first two sources. I expected them to be reliable.

So coming to this forum wasn't my first call at all. I chose a Logitech C920, only subsequently to be told by Logitech themselves that my OS 10.15.2 Catalina is not compatible, so was caught out. I sent it back.

In all the three reviews you cite, Logitech figure prominently and yet the Logitech lady this morning tells me on the phone that they do not supply any web cam product compatible with my system. This, despite "OS 10.10 and subsequent...." being the criterion for compatibility quoted by all product descriptions, including Amazon.

So, I wondered if anyone else on this forum has had this issue. I thought this was what the forum was for.

Thank you for the extra color, I find it is greatly useful when people say what they've learned/done/search/researched as opposed to just given you the same basic information to start with and then after a page of back and forth, getting to the real meat of the issue.

Logitech is definitely the well known name in webcams and peripherals and it's hard to think that they haven't kept pace with the macOS developments. My guess is that most of these apps are 32-bit and with Catalina dropping 32-bit support, they've been slow to respond.

You might have to check out alternate vendors and see if they've done a better job keeping pace with macOS updates.

Understood R. I'll update for the benefit of others when I know more. I've written to my local Apple store for their update if any.

@Davowolf - Did you actually try the C920 with your system?

I bought a C920s recently and after fiddling around for half an hour looking for Mac software to run it (Logitech's Mac instructions don't exist and what hey publish is misleading) I found out that it's really plug and play - no software required.
So I don't really understand what is not compatible with macOS 10.15 - the web can should just work when you plug it in.
Take a look at my post #8 in this thread:

Yes krs I did, but it didn't work; no plug and play. See my system spec.

I suspect your mac mini OS is old enough to be compatible with the C920 and my newer Catalina isn't. Familiar story ?

How do you know it didn't work? What did you try to do with it? Logitech's own software may well not be compatible with Catalina, but their software shouldn't be necessary for using their cameras. You don't need their software for other standard peripherals like mice and keyboards. You should be able to just plug it in and start using it with software like FaceTime. With Catalina, there may be some security preferences you need to review to enable it. Any apps that want to use the camera have to be authorized by you to do so in the Security & Privacy preferences.

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).

I read your initial post. And despite what Logitech says, there are reports from others (including someone in this very discussion!) that say the C920 will work with Catalina. So if you are only taking Logitech's word that their camera will not work on a Mac, or in Catalina more specifically, then I can only recommend that you disregard that. They. Are. Wrong. Linked below is a discussion on Logitech's website where some folks worked through issues using Logitech cams in Catalina. One guy had it plugged into a hub and that was the source of his problem.

OK L thanks. I'll look into this. Though the webcam has left the building at the moment.

Well...except that the Logitech web cam requires no software, so I don't see how Catalina would make any difference compared to ElCapitan which is what I'm running.
If you read my comments in the other thread, I had to select the web cam - and Logitech is dead wrong when they say "Windows only"
But now I went back to Skype - looked at Skype preferences, checked the Audio/Video tab and see the "HD Pro Webcam C920" pop up.
Selected that and the next thing I know, I'm looking at myself on the screen.
So actually pretty muck plug 'n play if one doesn't try to follow Logitech's instructions.
Tried Quicktime - the image popped right up ready to record
    Tried PhotoBooth - same thing
