Hitachi SATA hard drive won't fit enclosure
I am attempting to salvage my SATA Hitachi hard drive from an old macbook pro but it won't seem to fit the 2.5" enclosure to use it as an external hard drive. The reason seems to be these metal screws jutting out at the sides (4 total, one on each end). I have attempted to unscrew them, with no luck and pictures I see online of 2.5" hard drives don't seem to have these extra screws sticking out.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

All hard drives have holes on the side so that they can be mounted to trays or other enclosures. Those screws should be removable. Is the head of the screw stripped or something? Why aren't the screws coming out?

They won't budge at all. I have tried tiny flathead screwdrivers and pliers, but honestly it looks like a special tool is needed because the top of the screw is a hole in the shape of a hexagon.

Correct, those are Torx screws. Please use the right screwdriver for that, otherwise you'll end up stripping the head and making it a lot harder to take out.

    OP:

You can buy torx driver sets at Home Depot or Lowes. They are not expensive.

It might also be an Allen wrench that is needed. Look at the hole to determine which: Hex key - Wikipedia

Ok, looks like it might actually be Allen wrench, according to this. Thanks!

Excellent, one you use the right tool to remove those screw, the drive should nicely fit into the enclosure and then you can use those screws to secure the drive in the enclosure.

Unibody MacBook Pro hard drives use 4 x Torx T6 headed studs. Hope you haven't chewed them up. The logic board and fan screws are also T6.

    Steve is correct.

But what jmartin describes is clearly a screw that requires an Allen wrench
it looks like a special tool is needed because the top of the screw is a hole in the shape of a hexagon.
Best would be for the OP to post a picture of the head of the screw so that we all know what he is dealing with.

Or for him to look at the wikipedia article I linked where the profiles of all sorts of hex head screws are depicted.
