    durable case for 2012 mbpr 15" ?
l have decided to buy a new cover for my 2012mbpr, to replace the cheap 20HKD (in price and quality cracking in places in a month) plastic hard cover got for it now. I want to buy leather case but all that I have seen cover the air vents at the back surely this will compromise the cooling. Cases that I like are from glitty, but got told their leather cases also cover the air vents. They also do wood and stone. Shop Stone
    – Glitty

I assume stone would be most suitable for keeping the mbpr cool as if it had no case?
Leather one that looks quite nice is at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P5GHZSY...detail_2?psc=1 ' l did read some people saying covering the air vents has little effect, but from common sense, and reports from some users say otherwise. This comment kept me from purchasing this nice leather cover. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-r...SIN=B00P5GHZSY are there some leather cases or nice cases for 2012 15” mbpr that anyone can recommend?

If you really like those particular covers, try contacting the seller to customixe it for you or add a leather hole punch and hammer to youre order and create your own vent holes.

Or just cut the leather away from where it covers the vent holes. Problem solved.

Whichever case you decide on, make sure that it does not obstruct the natural cooling of the machine. I personally tend toward a hard cover case rather than leather but with the current Apple portable computers such as the MBP and MBA, cooling is even more important.

If I were you, I wouldn't be thinking of spending too much on a case. Just get one that offers protection but does not obstruct cooling.

Which material is best for keeping it cool as if it had no shell? l am pleased yourselves agree heat retention is not a good thing for mbpr. just the respsected pigloo3 said opposite: '

Knowing that heat is the enemy of electronics, I really want a case that is very good at not trapping heat. Are there any models particularly good at not blocking heat? I've been doing research online, but can't find much on that point.
If the main goal is a case that "won't trap ANY heat"...then the answer is...use no case.

If the main goal is to protect your 2016 MacBook Pro...then get a case & don't be concerned about heat retention. Protecting your MacBook Pro from scrapes, scratches, dings, and dents is wayyy more important than ANY concerns related to heat retention of a protective case. The amount of "extra" heat retained due to a protective case...is like a flea on an elephants butt.

I would not be concerned about heat retention due to a protective case. Get something you like...and enjoy it.

That 'leather' is actually plastic - PVC, not hide.

I use the cheap plastic clip on covers but get 6-12 months usage, bottom cover goes first. Almost always in house, gets out to my yard in summer. Big vents on base, no issues with overheating.

If the shoe fits, buy it in every colour.

Most of the "good" stuff is actually made from leather scraps and collagen that has beem pressed togeher with a very thin layer of PVC or similar type pllastic to try and help hold it in place and can have a plethora of different names.

But there are some real genuine leather cases out there, and maybe some with proper vents as well.

EDIT: Here's some info about that PU leather in case the OP didn't know:

l thought l'd ask in mac-forums as someone would know about good cases. wood, stone, ''leather'' or plastic clip ons (as l have now) better for ventilation? current clip on is fine, it just not very durable, cracked in corners already

More impotant than ever to maintain ventilation after today's news that the battery in a mid 2015 MBP retina 15" is liable to catch fire!

I thought most RSS feeds pretty well died out with the demise of Google Reader and how would using it guarantee that any reference to such a statement would have been included???

It seems like getting more stuff just to maybe get even more stuff.

I think I recall using some sort of RRS many years ago and it seemed rather confusing and almost like plugging into an old telephone partyline with a whole bunch of people of yakking away at the same time.
