Problem installing HP LaserJet printer p1102w on a MAC
    Hi everybody,

I am having issues installing my HP Laser Jet p1102w on my new mac.

I have download the latest HP software I could find on the hp website (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-p1102-printer-series/4110394/model/... is the driver for MAC 10.12

Unfortunately, my Mac's System Version is now macOS 10.13.3, but I could not find a software for this printer on the website especially developed for Mac High Sierra.

Anyway, I downloaded the software and I sucessfully installed it on my MAC following the instruction on the HP website (basically just opening the file and let the program installed itself). I now have a new application on my MAC Applications folder which is called HP e-print (the icon is blue and grey and it appears also on the doc). However when I click the icon it doesn't do anything and when I go to "System preferences - printers and scanners" I do not have any printer there so I guess the installation failed.

Could anyone help me to install the printer on my Mac??

One important thing is that I would like to install the printer without the cable, meaning, wirelessly because somehow I lost the cable so this would be easier (whenever possible).....

Thanks a lot for the help!

    Guadalupe

Try checking some of the web hits:
    https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...4lwmZj8ay3MlHj

    and
    https://www.google.ca/search?safe=ac....0.wsqRDMflPD0

    EDIT:
I can't even find any HP printer close to that model that's listed as supported at Apple's site. But that isn't always 100% accurate as far as usability goes, but not a good sign either:
    https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201465#HP

    And maybe:

If none of the HP or Apple stuff can help, maybe try the gimp-print driver but I'm not sure the supported HP PhotoSmart P1100 one will actually work:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_...d_Printers.php

I'd at least give it a try, otherwise maybe give HP a call or search the web. There just might be a solution out there for you to use, but maybe not wireless as it seems to be fussier to get working.

    https://www.google.ca/search?client=...I-je8AeaoaugDg

Or even this fix: maybe will work for HS as well???
It's helped me and printer HP LaserJet Pro P1102 works in Mac OS Sierra 12.12.6.
    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJ...a/td-p/5996012

And one more possible fix with some instructions and an interesting note:
    NOTE:
Since October 2016, HP printer software packages are no longer delivered through Apple Software Update. Visit 123.hp.com to download the latest HP software for your printer. Alternatively, if your printer supports Apple AirPrint, you do not need a driver to print from your Mac or iOS device. For more information, go to About AirPrint (in English).

    GOOD LUCK…

    @Patrick:

I purchased that exact model HP sometime in 2016 at Staples when it was on sale. At the time I was running El Capitan. Anyway, I got it to work via USB but could never get it to connect wireless. That model connects via BonJour but it's a real pain getting it to work right. I finally gave up in disgust and returned it to Staples for a refund. It was kind of too bad because otherwise it's a nice printer gentle on toner and fast.

Ahhh nice to see your post Charles.

I was hoping the "HP fan" guy would come to the rescue here with some comments, so I gather it was not one of your preferred HP and Mac compatible printers then???

Personally I've tried to avoid anything to do with most HP stuff and have found their cooperation or compatibility with Macs has been a PITA to attempt to get working for quite a few years now. But I guess that was just the bad luck of the draws I encountered.

BTW: I never did and still don't really understand the how and whys or the differences between BonJour and wi-fi, including printers and scanners. Now they also might throw in wireless Airprint to help confuse things.

Anyway, things don't sound too promising for the OP to get it working if they read any of this which is too bad as you say.

PS: Did you ever try the gimp-print stuff I suggested above??

I just happened to come across this and they seem to have got the HP Laser Jet p1102w working wirelessly with macOS X Sierria in a goofy sort of way, but do whatever works eh???

Just thought I'd pass it along. It just might work with HS as well.

Also, maybe something helpful here among the related topics:

I probably could have tried Gimp Print but I was so tired of fooling with it, I decided instead to return it. I have another older HP LaserJet (USB only) that works real well so I just stuck with that. However, I have used Gimp Print drivers before and they do work fairly well albeit with the loss of some printing options.

I can actually Air Print to my older HP by using Printopia. I registered Printopia years ago when it was under a different ownership. The app remained idle on my machine for 5 years before it was reintroduced by the new owner. They recognized my old license and let me upgrade to the new version for $9.95. I can print to either my HP or Epson from my iPhone or iPad as long as Printopia is active. Really a neat program.

Strange, Around 1-2 years back I purchased an HP Laserjet P1102w with both USB and Wifi. The only issue I had with Wifi was trying to do it the HP way in the manual. I finally gave up and held the WPS button on my router and HP down till lights blinked and it's worked every since and on every computer in the house both Mac and PC and also with all my apple tablets and iPhone due to E-Print.

It's been a great printer and far better than the Brother it replaced. Love it's small footprint and like Charley said low toner usage.

Also strange is all the different and often conflicting info out on the 'net regarding connecting and setting up that printer, and Apple's attitude doesn't seem very helpful or supportive.

And why does HP not even have drivers listed for it for use with HS etc. And in some places they even stated that it won't normally work for wireless use and a lot of support seems almost useless.

I've still got our HP 4ML Laserjet that works when I turn on the old G5 iMac running 10.5.8 as that Mac serial connected printer needs AppleTalk to work.
Actually it works amazingly well and very easy on toner but a bit slow considering all the router and AsanteTalk adapters it has to go through. And oh yes, I used the HandyPrint app to provide wireless/airprint access that worked amazingly well and better than that printopedia app thing which was surprising.

PS: In case it helps the OP, one thing I discovered to get our old printer working throughout our LAN network and for wireless use was the printer_name could NOT contain any spaces that Apple's setup kept insisting on doing in the printer network setup. i.e.: The HP_Laser_Jet_p1102w printer_name would work but HP Laser Jet p1102w name would NOT.

One thing I have noticed when setting up some Bonjour type printing is one must work very slowly and give everything some time to try and get an established connection.

Good luck and patience may bring some reward. Hopefully!!!

I wish I could have done that with the router I had at the time. At the time I tried it I was using an older ActionTech router supplied by Verizon which was needed for FIOS. I no longer have that router and probably could get the HP 1102W working via WiFi with my new router. I haven't seen that particular HP model on sale for some time. Staples carries the newer HP Laser series which are more expensive.

I wonder how the OP is making out or succeeding with his HP LaserJet situation as I haven't seen anything from them lately. ???

Saw the comments about High Sierra. Just printed via WiFi in 10.13.3 on my iMac and it works like it always has.

Thanks dtravis7 you gave me the hope that it might be worth my time to fix this problem. I can't tell exactly what worked because even though I kept testing to see if it was working, I was really surprised when it did.

After pressing buttons and trying everything, even changing to a very old SSID named HP-Print-3d-LaserJet-1102, somehow the WIFI button on printer started blinking. So I pressed the WPS button on router. After a while the blinking button went solid, but still not printing. The printer did print a "Congratulations!" that I was finally web connected with an email address that I could send what I needed to print, but that was not the solution I wanted.

But now it worked fine on my MacBook Pro 2013 running Sierra, but still not my MacBook Pro 2016 running Mojave.

On MBP 16 tried to install a new driver from support.HP.com and got message to go to Apple software update which apparently has not worked since October 2016. Other instructions said to go to 123hp.com or use air print.

After a run around with 123hp.com, it directed me back to HP.com/support. Got message "we were on not able to automatically locate any software options for this product."

Updated password to login to support.HP.com. Added serial number.
Starting over searching for driver macOS 10.13 even though I'm on 10.14.
"No software drivers are available for this product with your selected operating system."

Which is why I was really surprised when I tested again and it printed with USB which it didn't do previously. But still not over wifi.

Using Printers & Scanners I found and added another printer with same name followed by the number 2.

I am now printing over Wi-Fi from MacBook Pro 16 and also from iPhone.

I hope this helps someone else who searches for a solution. It is a shame that HP hasn't gotten their act together since it really is a nice little printer.

So Glad to hear you got it sorted. Glad what I said encouraged you to keep at it.

Come to think of it I have not tried to print from my Mojave iMac. Got to go try that and if not follow your steps above!

That particular printer has been on sale on and off at Staples but I have not seen it lately. I rarely need to print WiFi to my Laser printer and since my old HP 1012 still works like an old horse on oats, I just use that for our booklet work. Every else goes to our Epson which does work on WiFi.
