    old macbook 10.5.8 is saying the seagate backup lpus cannot be modified when i try to move i tunes library or anything onto it

    tis a new hard drive, tis an old mac but no problems i can think of..

    Is it brand new and out of the box?

    Have you reformatted it to Mac format in disk utility - it maybe formatted as Windows NTFS (which would make it read only on a Mac)

    in disk utility it won't let me convert, the icon is not highlighted, its straight put of box, meant to be ok for macs ...oh dear

    Take it back.
    Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
