    When I click on the Deals link, I get to the site but I also see an option to Login.

    What's the deal and why isn't my normal mac-forums.com login and password good enough???

    BTW: I was perusing around of the "Deals" pages the other day and there was a bunch of stuff all about Cannon something or other and they were all related to Windows users only. Seemed a bit strange to me, especially coming from a Mac support site.

    But rather interesting, I didn't notice them showing up when I looked again today, so I guess things change often, as they were right in my face the other day.

    That site is a completely different entity from ours with different login requirements etc. They do offer there deals to forum members but I don't think any of the deals thus far have been exclusively for members of our forums.

    OK, so call me completely confused and why does the "Deals" link take me to that page that even has the "Mac-Forums Deals" logo top and center of the "Deals" page????

    How can it be a "completely different entity from ours"????

    This is what I get and see:

    OK you're seeing a different page than I was thinking of. I'll do a bit more investigating and see what I can figure out.

    @Patrick I think I was right about this being advertised by stack social, Going to their page without using the mac-forums link gets one to a page with similar content. I used their site once or twice after iNet decided we were no longer welcome in their family.

    Although they advertise with us and offer deals to members I think users will have to set up an account with them if they choose to order something. The page that you saw is probably their way of knowing how many folks buy from their site after finding out about the deals here.

    OK, but I hope others can get their site to work and navigate better as I couldn't get a boat 80% of what I would have thought were links to work, ie: Gadgets and things.

    Also non-U.S. members may want to take notice that 80+ percent of the gadgets and things I looked at had notices such as:
    * Ships To US
    * Valid for US customers only
    * Ships To Contiguous US

    So it's pretty well useless for members such as myself.

    But even if it wasn't so restricted, the whole site seems a bit dubious as far as user customer protection goes and I got tired trying to find anything actually accurate and/or guaranteed.

    The whole thing seems a bit odd to me, especially with a direct " Deals" link provided in the mac-forums site that implies to me that the whole deals thing is part of mac-forums, which apparently it is not.

    But I do hope it at least provides some commission back to the mac-forums site to help support it if needs it.

    It's been like that for as long as I can remember. Back when iNET owned mac-forums it was part of an agreement with the owners and Stack Social. Moderators have been answering inquiries about "Deals" all during those years and likely again for the forseeable future.

    And unfortunately unless otherwise noted, the "Deals" are US customers only.

    But I do hope it at least provides some commission back to the mac-forums site to help support it if needs it.
    That's why you're seeing "Deals" once more. No free lunch for Stack Social.

    Hello Patrick. Why the "Mr. Grumpy" so often?? Why do you find so many things "a bit odd"??

    There's absolutely nothing wrong with the operation of the link to the Deals page (or the Deals Page itself). This is a very straight forward feature added to the website...which members can take advantage of (if they wish)...or not (if they wish).

    Maybe before declaring so many things "a bit odd"...if truly curious...maybe it would be better to ask some neutrally-toned probing questions first. This way more information can be gathered before declaring something "a bit odd". I think many times what you find "a bit odd" is actually very straight forward & easily understood...once more information is learned.

    And if something truly is "a bit odd"...it is always greatly appreciated when it is pointed out.

    Not being grumpy at all thanks Nick, just the usual curmudgeon.

    Yeah, I guess I'm just a bit surprised that the mac-forums supports such a deals site that seems to be so restricted as to shipping areas and/or generally no-returns.

    Maybe a link to something like amazon or suchlike that doesn't have such restrictions usually and can also provide a commission back to mac-forums and with similar or even cheaper pricing could provide benefits to more members.

    Anyway, I hope some members can benefit and enjoy some of the deals provided.

    I was just pointing out that it won't work for many of us non-US members.

    Call it being grumpy if you like, I call it being blunt, straightforward and just providing some honest facts.

    Dear Mr. Bezos:

    It has been brought to our attention by one of our more esteemed members here at Mac-Forums that you strongly consider using the forums to sell items. We would of course happily accept 10% of all profits. If this seems okay to you, please respond to this thread and included the name and address of your contracts lawyer.

    Sincerely, Esteemed Member

    Amazon Associates actually pays in the neighborhood of 5-10% of each sale (which is probably better than 10% of the profits). Problem is no one is purchasing anything.

    Thus whether someone likes or dislikes the new Mac-Forums "Deals" store...or someone likes or dislikes Amazon.com...the point is basically moot...since no one is doing any purchasing either way! Lol
