If you were at one time able to edit older posts, that was not normal. But then again Patrick, maybe you were performing a bit of magic. LOL.

Thanks Charlie, but just to make it clear, I've always been able to edit any of my own posts and at any time I'm sure, or at least was able until this last "database error" thing, but never any other member's post, if that's what you were saying.

And no "magic" on my part, besides I wouldn't even know how.

No Patrick, that's not what I was saying. The forum software has always placed a time limit on when you can edit your OWN posts. I'm not sure what that time limit was set as before, but I believe it was something like hours from the original post. You never could edit anyone else's posts. Only Staff members using moderation can edit older posts of anyone.

As I stated above, if you could at one time edit older posts that you made, it was likely a glitch in the forum software.

Well, at least he tries around Christmas Time, thanks Ian.

BTW: This Edit exist/not-exist thing must be time stamped by the hour according to this recent post. Anyway no big deal I guess and maybe I hadn't noticed the effect before but I don't think so.
But really, would anyone even notice a correction made 6+ hours after an original post anyway???
But why not the later post #8 below in the screen shot, that's almost 18 hours earlier than my post and screen grab???

As for your other question Patrick, the time stamp is generated from your time zone and appears differently for each member according to their own time zone. Is that what you're referring to?

Also, in addition to what Nick posted about the 24 hour time limit on editing one's own posts, I believe if you sign out of the forums and then back in, you lose the ability to edit. However, I may be mistaken about that since it's been ages since I tried that as a non staff member. Try it and let us know Patrick.

Gee, another detail I hadn't thought of — the different time zones, and what time and timestamp is used for what and when.

I think I'll just try and not have to edit and save any confusion.

I noticed the recurring thread issue the other day. I viewed one thread three times, and then I replied to it, after that it disappeared from the “New Posts” list. Yesterday, the thread reappeared, and when I went to view it, there was another post, in between the last post, that I viewed and replied after, and my reply. So, I assumed it had something to do with that other user, having the site still open, maybe?

In case anyone tried to access the website within the previous 2 hours of the posting of this message...it was down. A BIG apology to everyone. The hosting company was doing something on the site...and brought it down. The site should be up & running now.

    Thanks

What would that FB site's URL be Ian???

I just end up at some old FB mac-forums page with very old messages, so obviously not the correct page.
