Best Travel Monitors for Trash Can Macs?
Hello, I have one of the so called "Trash can" style Mac Pros. When I travel, I often bring it with me so I can work in Logic Pro. My question is this - does anyone have a recommendation for a good screen that I can use with it when I travel. Something that can fit in a backpack but is not so small it is tiresome to work with.

I had an AOC LED monitor that was a good size (approx 14" x 9") but it lagged when using Logic Pro. But only when I used that program! I tried tech support and they said it was a common issue they only found with Logic.

I have heard you can use an app called "Duet Display" to use your iPad as a monitor and that would be great, but to buy an iPad that is large enough is so expensive! Any suggestions for a cheaper alternative?

    Thanks,
    S

You can simply try one from the below list:

    1) Lilliput UM-70 LCD USB Powered Monitor
    2) ASUS MB168B+ review – Slimmest USB Powered Monitor.
    3) ViewSonic TD2230 Best Portable Touch Screen Monitor.

    Thanks,
This is a pretty tall order. Basically it's all about size. The larger the monitor you can carry...the happier you will be. Problem is...your backpack is not that large...thus it can only hold a small monitor. And like you said...you would probably have to purchase a full size 12.9" iPad Pro that might work for you...but they are expensive. And who knows...you might still experience lag.

Here are three ideas that may or may not work for you:

    1. If when you travel...if you travel to the same place fairly often...maybe leave a monitor there to use (if possible).
    2. Use a projector. This is an "out of the box" idea. Find a projector that is affordable & can project the resolution you want. The downside to projectors is...the bulbs don't last super long...and they can be expensive to replace. But many choices would fit in your current backpack.
    3. Get a bigger backpack that can hold a larger monitor.

    HTH,

Option 2 never occurred to me. Guess that's why you get paid big time admin pay. Brilliant given how light some projectors have become.

Yes...some projectors are very small and very portable. But...may not be the perfect solution...since usually you need to darken the room to see things the best...and you need a good surface to project onto (a wall for example). But who knows...could work for the OP...or someone else out there in "The Cloud"!

I don't know.... anyone that would want to carry around a trash can Mac Pro is into pain. Just buy a MacBook and be done with it.

Definitely the way I would go. Sacrifice some of the Mac Pro performance for much better portability of a MacBook/MacBook Pro! And leave the Mac Pro for the at home work.
