    How to setup dual monitors
    Hi everyone,
    I have a intel imac and i also have a samsung syncmaster712n lcd screen and i wondering how to set it up with imac so i have dual montiors display like screen spanning. Like wat kind of cabels do i need, i read the other post thread about this and was wondering is there anyway to screen span with out that 3rd party app? thanks

    That 3rd party app is only for the iBooks, which don't screen-span from the factory.

    To setup screen spanning, simply get a DVI to VGA converter (your iMac probably came with one) and plug the Samsung to your iMac. When you turn on the Samsung, you should be screen-spanning, that's it. If the Samsung only shows what's on the iMac's screen simply hit F7 to turn off/on mirroring.

    To set it up further (resolution, arrangement, colors), open up System Preferences and go to "Display".

    thanks alot. dont think my imac came with one though, do i have to buy one from apple or will any do also i dont see a dvi port on my imac am i blind? or is it one that has like a box with lines on each side of it above port?

    i think you can do screen spanning with out the hack on the intel imacs
    Mac Pro (Early 2009) 8 Core 2.26 GHz, 6 GB Ram, 640 GB Drive. Dell 2408WFP.

    A) The Intel Macs don't need a screen-spanning hack (with all of the people who use it, I'm surprised it wasn't bigger news).

    B) The iMac uses a 'Mini-DVI' port. I honestly think it's the stupidest technology ever created (outside of Mini-SD cards), but they use it. You have to buy a Mini-DVI to DVI converter, then buy a DVI to VGA converter.
    I'd use Windows... but I like the Mac OS more.

    Thanks guys u were very helpful im gonna go to local apple store and get that mini dvi to vga cable thanks helpful forum.

    Oh, I didn't know they made those... learn something new everyday.
    I'd use Windows... but I like the Mac OS more.
