Hey guys. I know it's there for my own good to let me know everything is turning on ok, but man it is just a PATA sometimes when I'm in the library or in class. Is there anyway to permanently disable the infamous start up sound?

turn your volume off before you turn your comp off.

The easiest way is to shut the lid instead of turning it off. I haven't heard mine in weeks.

I'd avoid any software that has to patch the firmware to do it.

I judge you when you use poor grammar.

I'd rather just shut the lid than risk the integrity of the firmware, but that's just IMO.

The startup sound is there for a reason. If you have problems with your computer and can't boot up, the apple techs need to know whether you are getting past the POST steps (which are signified by the dong).

The startup sound is part of the firmware, you can't delete it.

explain why you think I am wrong ? "PSST" works and many love it... you control it and its never caused me any problems.
Now i dont have to disturb people on planes /coffee shops etc.

Pointless you saying you cannot delete/trick it not to make a sound. when others have mentioned that it CAN be done !!!!

I just don't understand the point of shutting down a laptop. When I had my iBook, it was never shutdown. Sleep works great guys, and hardly touches the battery.
