    Mojave + older operating system
Hi, I have MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), Mojave 10.14.6 and I need to install Adobe Illustrator CS4 in it, but its not working since Illustrator is old and Mojave isn't.
So I got this good idea to split my mac to two, one side has Mojave and another side has an older system. (sorry, the terminology of these things isn't my strength)
So I added a volume for another system and then I downloaded Yosemite. And when I was installing it I tried to choose the new volume but I can't. The error message says:
OS X can't be installed on this disk. macOS isn't installed.
    What I'm doing wrong?

You cannot install an older version of macOS than what your machine came with. Your 2015 MBA likely came with El Capitan or Sierra and that's the oldest version you can go back to.

Rather than jumping through these hoops, you might be better of thinking of upgrading to the latest Adobe suite so that you can use it with the newer version of macOS.

Also, make sure to confirm the new "side" is formatted as (HFS+) Mac OS Extended Journaled. Mojave uses the new APFS format type.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

    I can choose only APFS.
I tried to download Sierra but I couldn't change the default option Macintosh HD to the other one.

    What can I do?

Also, if you have links where to find the right installers that would be nice too I can't download them from App Store.

    Thanks

You could also take a look at Affinity Designer, Affinity Designer – Professional Graphic Design Software. It is very comparable to Adobe Illustrator, and they have plenty of tutorials available.

    Hi Nora:

    First, Welcome to our forums.

The advice above from Bob and Ian is something you may want to consider. Adobe CS4 Illustrator is out of date and there is no way that Adobe is going to give you a break on updating to their latest version as far as price goes. The Affinity applications from Serif are inexpensive, intuitive, and I believe you'll find them just as good or better than those from Adobe. And at a much better price.

If we can be of more assistance, let us know.
