Send A Specific Folder to iCloud in El Capitan 10.11.6
    Hello All!
I apologize if this answer is here somewhere, but my searching didn't reveal it.

I have El Capitan (the newest OS my computer can utilize) and I wish to send only a specific folder to iCloud.

Apple instructions are for newer OS (Mojave & later), so the option to pick a folder from the "iCloud Drive - Options" isn't available. Only apps are there (and only some apps- not all)

Is there a way to have iCloud back up a specific folder?
For Example: In my Documents Folder there is a folder titled "Income Tax Multiple Years". I'd like to send that to iCloud as a redundant back up place. Ideally, the iCloud copy will be updated when the computer copy is updated.

    And, kind of related-
When I tried to sign out of iCloud, I got a warning that any files on the computer that are on iCloud will be deleted from the computer. That sounds scary.
Is there a way to turn off iCloud without deleting things from my computer? (Screen Shot is attached)

    And-Two,
If I go to Finder - Sidebar -iCloud Drive, there is nothing there, despite having Text Edit, Calendar, Reminders, photos and some other items checked.
Do you have any idea where the stuff is?

Perhaps iCloud is too high tech for me to use.
Thanks For Helping me navigate this uncharted territory!
    Paul

    HI Paul

iCloud Drive is available with El Capitan according to the link below.

Here is an article demonstrating how to use this facility: Navigate iCloud Drive

You can, in any case, access iCloud Drive through iCloud.com

Please shoot back if you are still having difficulties. Oh, for now anyway, don't sign out of iCloud.

Thank You Ian for taking time to reply with helpful information.

The article you linked explained things much more clearly than Apple's article. Sometimes Apple's how-to postings seem to be written for those more familiar with- for lack of a more polite way to speak- young people computer stuff. (I meat no offense to anyone by saying "young people computer stuff". It's the best way I've got to describe those I know who are ultra-current with stuff like syncing, messaging, paying with one's phone, etc.)

Today I look forward to having time to experiment around and explore iCloud and your linked article will be quite helpful as I learn.

    Enjoy Today!
    Paul
