    I need a new battery for my mid-2012 MacBook Pro 9,1 A1286
My battery that has lasted very well has taken a dive so rather than replace the laptop I would like to change the battery. I've seen in the past a recommendation for where to find a good quality battery that for sure will work properly, but I just can't remember the website name. It's one of the ones that is also recommended to get SSDs for the Mac. I'm hoping someone can jog my memory.

BTW, I'm keeping this laptop until it dies because it still has the internal DVD player and all the ports available on the side of the case without having to use adapters all the time.

    Thanks.

OWC, or Other World Computing is the site you want. Apple Mac Upgrades - RAM, SSD Flash, External Drives and More is the website.

there is a thread today were someone with the same macbook pro might scrap theirs.
maybe ask them if they might sell their battery to you?

OWC makes good mac things, as macinwin posted.
MacBook Air 2010 4gb Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Snow Leopard 10.6.8
i fixed everything on the macbook my self and repaired many in the past.

I would recommend against recycling an old battery into a machine to replace an old battery. Lithium batteries start to decay about 2 years after manufacture, so if the battery in that old machine is original, it would be 8 years old and well past the optimum date. Plus, you have no idea how many cycles that battery has been through, which also ages a lithium battery.

OWC sells good batteries. That is, I think, a better option.

Yes, after considering the option, I came up with the same conclusion.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the quick replies. Now that you mention OWC, that rings a bell. I'm sure that is the one I was trying to remember.

You could also try eBay. Some folks have had good luck with batteries purchased off eBay, others haven't. A battery from OWC is a good choice, however, a bit expensive so it's up to you on how much you want to spend on a machine that's going on 8 years old.

I have never purchased a replacement battery from Apple at their excessive prices, and as of those I know who did, they did not perform any better than the excellent NewerTech replacement battery I purchased from OWC years ago, nor any of the better batteries I have purchased via eBay.

As for the replacement MacBook batteries purchased via eBay, just don't expect a $12 battery to perform anywhere close to what a good new battery should perform at that will cost considerably more, but a far cry from Apple's high replacement battery price.

    My two bits worth...
