How to change system font in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?
Hi!!! I would like to know the way to change the typefonts in the desktop menubar as well as the desktop dropdowns from Lucida Grande to Helvetica Neue, just "ala Yosemite" fashion. I've succesfully set to Helvetica Neue every other fonts in the system (the majority of the apps, and context right click menus in Firefox, all of them already with Helvetica happily working), via the TinkerTool app.

For some reason, top menubar in the desktop as well as its dropdowns keeps default Snow Leopard Lucida Grande, which I would like to change. No way to do this can be found in TinkerTools.

I would like to change from this....

Is there there any way? Needless to say that googling didn't help that much...and that Helvetica Neue font is already installed in the system...Also asking on other forums did not help...nobody answered....

    Thanks for a quick reply....

You could try renaming the Helvetica Neue family of fonts to Lucida Grande, then rebooting. However that may have intended consequences.

Needless to say, if you try this, make backups beforehand.

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).

Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

    Welcome to our forums.

Quick answer.... you can't change the type fonts in the system menu bar. There are work arounds but it requires the use of terminal commands and the results are unpredictible. The Tinker Tool utility can make changes to some fonts but not those of the system menu bar. The same holds true for the latest version of Tinker Tool and macOS.
