    Screen capture problem
I have a MacBook and when I use Grabit to capture something on my screen it captures a portion of my desktop. I have the same problem when I use a Logitech spotlight to magnify a section of a ppt slide the magnified section looks through my slide and shows a portion of the desktop behind it. Has anyone a solution for this. I am using Mac OS Catalina

    Hi Mighty Gem.

I am running Catalina too. Screen Capture starts up. Select from a full Screen, Window or Portion. Recording options as well. Several save options as well.

Note : Using my new Mac so all this is new to me too. Just finding out new stuff so cannot say why yours is not available on your Mac.

Exactly the same as above for me I'm also on Catalina but this has been active since Mojave. What about Command, Shift, 3 or 4? These are built in native functions so I can't think of any reason why these wouldn't work for you.

Firstly, thanks to those of you for following up this problem and for the suggestions. Shift + Command +3 gives me a capture of the whole screen. Shift Command + 4 allows me to select an area on my screen and capture it and Shift, Command + 5 allows me to select an area or full screen for capture. These all work, but my original, and still existing, problem is as stated in my original post - I select an area of a window with either the Grabit application or when using a Logitech Highlight 'MAGNIFY' the area on my desktop behind the portion that I have selected is captured and saved, not the part of the window that I wanted to capture!!!!

That sounds like a bug in Grabit or Logitech. Have you gone to the developer website for either of them to see if there is an update or a bug reporting location?

Thanks for your input MacInWin, it would seem like it could possibly be a bug, but the Logitech is new and I have its latest software, but I think it might be too much of a coincidence to have the same problem with both Grabit and Logitech, I would think it is more likely to be an issue with my macbook. However, I will try what you have suggested as I cannot think of anything else that might lead to solving the problem.

Are you sure that "GraBit" and or the Logitech are compatible with Catalina? Catalina has additional built in security and does not allow (will not run) any 32 bit apps or apps that may be 64 bit but have 32 bit dependencies. Even if "GraBit" and the Logitech software are 64 bit, they still may need to be updated to run in Catalina.

I have read that the Logitech mouse may have driver issues with Catalina. It possible that although the device works with the Apple native drivers the proprietary drivers that enable secondary functions may not. See this;Mouse Compatible with mac OS Catalina | MacRumors Forums
If so you may have to wait till Logitech update or do without the extra functions.

Oh, I meant to ask, did you get Grabit from the App Store? If so it should work unless it requires functionality from the Logitech.

Hi Rod, I honestly cannot remember, but I am fairly sure that I downloaded it from the internet some years ago. It has worked perfectly until a short while ago.

Can it be updated, quite a lot has happened with macOS in the last couple of years? I mean is there an update command in its settings?
I know it's currently available on the app store you might like to compare your version number to the one on the store.

I just checked the version in the App store it's ver. 4.920 which came out 8 mnths ago.

I have automatic updates selected and have just checked and found that software is up to date with OS Catalina 10.15.1. I am wondering if my problem might have occured as a result of a recent update as the problem was not there a short while ago

Thanks for your input chscag , it is quite possible that this problem has arisen as a result of me installing Catalina. By the way, I like your Avatar picture.
