I am an idiot, i need help.
This morning I upgraded to Catalina...
now i have NO networking - wired or wireless (in Safe Boot or normal), i have no USB keyboard (which is an old apple keyboard), i did a backup last month and forgot (like a dumb donkey) to do so before the update... if i downloaded videos from iTunes since then... will they get deleted from a Carbon Copy Cloner roll back? what else of a mess am i looking forward to with the nightmare...
    thanks for any reply.
    Im... just... Awkward.

What you can do is before you roll back with CCC is to copy everything that you need that has been changed since the last backup - such as your videos from iTunes. Just copy all that you need to an external USB flash drive or external drive. After restoring with CCC, you can copy all that back again.

And yes, when you restore with CCC unless you have the Safety Net option on, it will get deleted (overwritten) by CCC.

There are so many reports of different problems with Catalina from various corners of the Mac world, that I would not be surprised if there are other folks same as you.

    I'm still running Mojave.

the specs in my profile are mostly correct, the only thing that has changes is the 500GB HDD in place of the optical became a 1TB SSD. but that wouldnt effect the upgrade at all.

I think you are the first person to have internet connectivity problems re to Catalina upgrade on this forum so I immediately suspect something else. Do you have a wifi signal on the menu bar? Are you connected to the correct network? Check by clicking on the wifi symbol to see which network you are attempting to connect to.

Yesterday, when I replied, I was using the Mac-Forums app, and there is no profile within the thread.

I would boot into Recovery, and reinstall macOS.

You're right, we can't see profiles with the Mac-Forums app. When I need to access the forums using iOS, I do it with my iPad Pro using Safari where the screen is a bit tight but it does give you the profile.

Not sure I would recommend trying to reinstall Catalina from Recovery. Some folks have reported problems doing it that way.

@disturbed13: Make sure you have a good backup before attempting a reinstall if you should decide to do that.

yes, it says it was connected to my phone
but i could not ping hotmail.com or even google...
so i used CCC and rolled back... and now i have networking back.
just alot of other work to do, and a reinstall from the CCC back up disk to consider....

Your phone? Are you using the phone as a hotspot? If you click on the fan icon on the top bar, do you see the router, assuming you have one? If you are connected to your phone, and didn't intend to use it for connecting to the Internet, that could well be the problem.
but i could not ping hotmail.com or even google...
That is a symptom of not being connected to the internet. You can be connected to the phone, or even to your home router, but if it doesn't have internet access, you won't be able to see anything.

So now what do you see under the fan icon? Your router? Phone?

You gave up pretty quickly, before we could get any diagnosis done, but maybe some of this will help next time.

I would think it would be a bit fluky, but I can recall some OS install problems many years ago if and when a second or more hard drive was attached and connected to the Mac when doing an OS X install. But one never knows if they completely elimited the problem.

Maybe use Disk Utility to unmount the second hard drive just in case when doing any OS X installations.

this is my current annoyance, it looks like i should have wiped the drive and let CCC just over write everything to the internal again. my consern (because apple is acting like Microsoft by using the customers as beta testers) is that the 500GB of a running backup will not fit on my 250GB internal SSD... but i could just be acting like a fussy butt for no reason...

and yeah, i roll over quick. i need to use this machine, not spend a week trying to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it (no offense to anyone here offering help and advise).

on a scale of 1 to 100 (higher the better) how 'badly' should i make a bootable mojave USB? ive seen that tossed around a bit here lately...

I would say if you ever do any of your own Mac maintenance, diagnostics or troubleshooting, you should always have at least one compatible device that can be used to boot that Mac model.

You probably have a lot more choices than just using a USB drive, which would probably also be the slowest type of boot device you can use,
