There are no non-Apple products that work to recover/repair APFS-formatted drives. That's because Apple has yet to release the entire APFS spec publicly. It's why we haven't seen a version of Disk Warrior for Mojave yet. (Mojave converts all internal drives to APFS without any user option.)

On the other hand, the original poster said nothing about having an SSD or a drive that is formatted as APFS.

    Just an FYI...

When SSD's first became popular, *all* hard drive recovery services didn't know how to handle them. Most went around saying that SSD"s simply couldn't be recovered. That has since changed. In fact, some hard drive recovery services now claim to be able to handle SSD recoveries with no problem. For instance:

Could you supply some references to support such statements?

And specifically their abilities to recover deleted data files from SSD drives.

I have been using Tech Tool Pro for a long, long time, and it is the only commercial utility program that can work fully with APFS-formatted volumes.

honestone33, not only did you not answer the question, your post incorrectly implied that a deleted a file(s) could be easily rescued using TechTool Pro and it's Data Recovery capabilities.

A quick Google search leads me to believe such as not the case, and I also have been using TechTool Pro for a great number of years and I didn't think it had such capabilities. And I was correct!!!

For example, they say right on their support site:
    Data Recovery Tool Non-Functional 16 Jul 2018
Data Recovery does not work on SSD drives, ...
    ... ... ...
For future reference: If you are using macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Data Recovery and Trash History are not available for the active startup volume, due to changes Apple made in security.
So, in the future, please be a bit more prudent when posting, and make sure all facts are accurate, preferably with some backup statements and the source.

Enough! With these sorts of derailments of conversations, the OP would have no reason to return.
