according to the web it came original with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, so I bought online the Mac OS X 10.3 panther full retail install disc's which came with 3 install disc and 1 Xcode tool install disc, total of 4 disc, now the problem I'm having is when I put in disc 1 and press C at start up,

Is there anything printed on that #1 CD "Retail" Panther Install disk as to what exact OS X version it contains??? I also trust it is not a grey set of disks.

I ask as it seems the early 2004 iBook models need a minimum of:
    Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.3.3 (7G51)

    iBook G4/1.0 14-Inch (Early 2004 - Op) Specs (Early 2004 14-Inch, M9418LL/A, PowerBook6,5, A1055, N/A): EveryMac.com

If the boot install disk is not v. 10.3.3 or even later, it will not boot that iBook!!!

    EDIT:
For example, a Retail set of Mac OS X Panther Install Disck such as this Ebay offer would work with that iBook. It contains OS X 10.3.5.

It doesn't say retail on the disc and it just says 10.3 panther , I ask they guy I bought them from if they were the retail disk and he told me they were, but I don't think they are 10.3.3, all it's says is 10.3, so that may be the issue

    Patrick -

It's a late 2004 iBook, not an early one - it came with 10.3.5 but I dont know if it will not boot into an earlier version of 10.3

Nothing offensive that I can see.

As far as macOS 10.6 is concerned - you can forget that totally.
The iBook will not run with the OS regadless how you get there.
The latest it will run on is macOS 10.5

Can't really read what it says on your Panther install disks - they are the correct type, but are the 10.3.5 or later?
If not and if you want tu pursue this, I would get a Tiger "black" install disk.
I really liked Tiger in its days.

    Hmmm....

Might be OK, I don't know.
Anyone have any insight into that?

I have to go out for a little while, but I will check back later.

Model A1054, which is what you posted in post #30 is a late 2004 iBook.

Not that there is much difference to the early 2004 iBook

One difference is that the early one shipped with 10.3.3 and the late one shipped with 10.3.5

But that doesn't necessarily mean your 10.3 install disk won't work with the 2004 late iBook - I just don't know at this point.
If the Mac didn't like it I wouldn't expect to get the Apple logo.

That's alittle over my head , that's what I got when I googled all the info I have on the computer

    - - - Updated - - -

So basically , I need the 10.3.5 up to a 10.5.8 which was on the book at last able to view

It's a late 2004 iBook, not an early one - it came with 10.3.5 but I dont know if it will not boot into an earlier version of 10.3

Not normally, and especially if the "Late" model had some critical new feature that required the later 10.3.5 OS X version.

Personally, I go by the mimum requrements that is show for the particular model:

So your model is definitely this:
    iBook G4/1.2 12-Inch (Late 2004 - Op) Specs (Late 2004 12-Inch, M9623LL/A, PowerBook6,5, A1054, N/A): EveryMac.com

    Couple of questions:
    1. Did you try starting up holding down the option key? What do you get?
    2. When you get the apple logo, how long did you wait before you gave up? Sometimes it takes very long for the Mac to start off a DVD. And did the DVD stop searching for a time before you gave up
    3. Do you have another Mac with a DVD drive to check that that the DVD at least seems OK. Not to boot but just to see the DVD show up in the finder
    4. Do you hasve an external USB DVD drive you can try?

  15. #60
    1. option key shows install disk only, it has a little box in the bottom right corner with x in it, when booting from that logo comes up then goes to circle with slash through it.
    2. when booting holding down c, logo appears then after a few seconds it shifts to the right a little then the tiny lines appear as in first pic above, after about 30 sec. disc stops spinning, i let set for almost an hour and thats all it done, disc never starting spinning again, nothing as if it just froze
    3. do not have another mac, only windows pc
    4. i have a 30 gb disk usb disk scan, which i have downloaded a ton of different supposed install disc off the internet and burned using transmac, unetbootin, magic iso, etc. Ive tried downloading everything from mac os x 10.4 thru mac os x 10.6 and none will boot
