Just curious. I also got a newer Toast (15) and it had issues converting videos for burning. What issues did you have with 17?? I had to roll back to 11 myself.

It's sad there are no other options that do everything Toast does. On the Mac Toast is like Nero on the PC. I have not found anything so far that does all Toast does. Sad Roxio messed a few things up.

If all you need is basic burning capability check out Burn. It doesn't have some of the fancy menus like Apple's iDVD program but can handle burning of basic discs for data, DVDs, CDs, etc.

Just for the record, Roxio Toast started to mess up their Toast application many versions ago, but then passed the job over to Corel Corporation to completely mess it up, which I believe is up to version 18 now.

And as Sly mentioned, the last time I needed any burning software I just used Burn.app that worked fine for me. I can't recall the last time I use my version of Toast at 12. But every version after their version 6 started going goofy as far as I'm concerned.

I know all about Corel. Actually there are 4 companies involved. When I got 15 and it messed up every video it converted for burning I demanded my $$$ back and had to talk to 4 different companies to get that $$$ which I finally got. Toast 11 works perfectly BTW. The only reason I upgraded to 15 over 11 was I was afraid with newer versions of Mac OS 11 would eventually no longer work. So far it does though.

I have recommended Burn to a few friends who do what I have to do to make a DVD for my customers and Burn messed things up that way. Burn is fine for basic burning but for what I do has issues. For just burning files to a DVD you can use Finder for that matter.

@Dennis Don't want to take things too far astray here but what kinds of burns were being missed up? I don't burn many discs anymore but I like to keep on top of where potential problems are when recommending software.

I just checked MalwareBytes on my Macbook and nope, I was wrong. You can't point it at a specific volume to scan it. I was thinking of whatever it was I was using before MalwareBytes. However, I don't know if it will scan the contents of a DMG file unless you have it mounted as a volume first.

If you are looking for an alternative to Toast, and I would contend that would be wise in case the version you are relying on eventually fails to work on future versions of macOS (if it's a 32-bit app, then that will be the upcoming version of macOS), then we'd need to know more about what you need it for specifically. Otherwise, as long as it works for your needs, I say stick with it.

EDIT: back to MalwareBytes... it may not be scanning even mounted DMGs. I found something on their website that explains why the apps works so fast. It only looks in locations where known malware is expected to reside, rather than just checking "everywhere" even where not expected to be.

I haven't burned a disc in several years, but I do recall that SimplyBurns worked better for me than Burn did. I don't recall why though. Maybe I just liked the UI better? *shrug*

I did a Live chat on the Roxio website to see if I could get a discounted price because I was a previous owner of Toast 12. Long story short, I was able to produce the product key code for my copy of Toast 12 and they sent me a link to purchase Toast 17 for $35.00. Toast 17 has multiple issues. First and foremost it literally took 2 minutes to launch (I timed it) and when I wanted to "Title" let's say an audio disc and placed a check mark in the box that says something like "use track or song titles" none of it EVER worked. The CD Title said "Audio Disc" and the song titles came back: "Track 1" etc. I did another rLive Chat with Roxio support and they told me these were known issues. I asked if these "known issues" were going to be fixed. They're only reply was to attempt to tell me that the ONLY way this issue could be fixed was for them to remotely access my computer. Well we all know that wasn't going to happen. When I immediately declined theyr'e ever so gracious offer to remotely access my computer, they abruptly ended the chat session. I then went to the support part of the the Roxio site, submitted a refund request and within 2 hours, I received an email stating a $35.00 refund was forthcoming. All that being said, I believe Toast 18 just came out. I would try the same thing I did with the Live Chat to see if they will send you a link for a discounted price. In my opinion, I'd much rather pay a discounted price rather than the full price in case it doesn't work out.

Thank you for the heads up on Malwarebytes. With regards to Toast 12 ... I agree with you. I'm going to keep using it until it doesn't work anymore.

Or maybe just try downloading it from here and see if it works:
Toast Titanium 18 free download for Mac | MacUpdate

I don't know if it's a demo or what or how it might be restricted but I couldn't try it because I'm only running Mavericks but it's not even a normal application that would normally post a notice to that effect that you need a later OS version.

They just greyout the "Continue" button.

I took a gander at the listing you posted and spewed coffee all over my monitor when I saw the $99.99 price tag.

Thanks for the link Patrick. I see that it's a free download but is it free to use? I only ask because I see a $99.99 price listed.

I don't know what they've done or if or how it's crippled as I mentioned in my post #26 above. And I can't try it as it says it needs OS X 10.11 or later and I'm running 10.9.5.

PS: My apologies to Lifeisabeach and his spewing his coffee all over his display monitor. I hope none went out his nose as that can smart.

    EDIT:
In defence of Toast Titanium and its seemingly high price, I see it also includes:
    Toast
    Secure Burn
    MyDVD
    Akrilic
    MultiCam Capture
which actually is quite a bundle of extras and may be of use to some users.
CD & DVD Burner for Mac - Toast 18 Titanium by Roxio

I don't think my Toast Titanium 12 included anything extra other than Toast Titanium.app itself.
But then again I think I may have got it with some Mac Software Bundle purchase.
