    Files upload to icloud
I recently upgraded my iCloud storage so I can place more than my documents and photos there.
Besides my photos app library, I have a large amount of pics and videos that I keep in a separate folder on my iMac hdd. It took a while, but I figured out how to move them from hdd to iCloud w/o messing up my folder system (no thanks to Apple support, I might add). My concern is that some of the files just donít seem to be uploading. Is there any specific type of file that wonít upload?
My next big ? Is iTunes. I have a mess of music files that I want to store in iCloud. Can I just moved over my folder of songs to iCloud while leaving all other iTunes files/folders on my hard drive? Will this create a prob, especially with saved podcasts?
    Thanks for the help

    @tape,

I'll do my best to help.

Question 1. iCloud Photo Library uploads all your photos & videos from the Photos app. But if you have additional photos or videos stored elsewhere in Documents, these are not included. If you want them included, they would have to be stored in the iCloud under Desktop and Documents (System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options >Desktop & Documents Folders.

Question 2. Same sort of thing again. Uploading and syncing via iCloud is achieved - iTunes > Preferences > General > iCloud Music Library. This will include your entire library. Once again, if you have music stored outside of iTunes, that will not be included.

So don't tinker with your iTunes files/folders. No drag & drop. Do it the way I mentioned above. Your iTunes library will remain on your Mac as is.

Please post back if you need further info or help.

    Ian,
Thanks for the tip. There is no icloud music library under my general itunes preferences. I did click on the ? and I get the idea I have to subscribe to apple music. I've already paid extra for more storage. I am not paying more just to store my music. I’ll use my carbon copy closer to at least pt a backup copy there

    Hi tape,

You mean in iTunes > Preferences > General you don't see this:

    S1.jpg

This has been the way for many OS X systems. True, I have macOS High Sierra, not macOS Mojave, but I didn't think it had changed?? Could be wrong.

That's where one was always able to turn on/off iCloud Music Library.

Absolutely no need to subscribe to Apple Music at all. I don't. They may be pushing you with requests to do so; ignore them.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Yes, Bob, I do/did/presumably still do!

But I haven't seen that for quite a while. I thought it was replaced by iCloud Music Library??? It's so long since iTunes Match, that I forgot all about it..... doh

I have iCloud Drive on my iMac. Use it? Well, I temporarily store important work-in-progress files there. Problem is, if I want to save storage space on my iMac (great SSD, but only 1TB), then putting things in iCloud Drive on the iMac simply duplicates the data. (Same problem with the free version of Dropbox).

I could, of course, use the Desktop Documents facility (System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options > Desktop & Documents Folders); but there are problems with that too, especially if you ever turn it off.

Why did you ask, Rod? Obviously it was leading to something......
