    Available HD space error
    Hi, Mac Mini 2.0 i7 2011. Server edition - 2 x 7200rpm 500GB drives. Mavericks

I have 6GB free HD space on my system 500GB drive. I have 4 folders on the drive - Library - 152GB, Users - 77GB, Applications - 14GB and System - 6GB. This does not total anything like 450GB which I would presume would would give me such a small available space result. Can anyone explain why this might be the case?

Any help on this greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks in advance

Is Time Machine turned on? Time Machine makes local snapshots, when TM is on, but the TM drive is disconnected/unmounted.

Also, how do you know you only have 6GB of space left? How long have you had this Mac mini?

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Local snapshots are not made when the machine is a desktop. That only applies to portable Macs.

Hi there, thanks for the response.

Time machine is not switched on. I manually back up my files using various seagate USB drives (I work with music files on this machine mostly).

I have had it since new, 2011. I re-installed a few years ago from a fresh format so effectively this installation of Mavericks is roughly 2 years old.

If I get info about the Server HD (system drive) it indicates 6GB free space. Same as at the lower edge of a window - 4 items / 6GB available...

    Thanks
