Problem with 9x12 printing from Pages 6.3.1
I'm trying to print greeting cards (set up to fill 1/4 of a 9x12 sheet, in landscape orientation) from Pages 6.3.1 on a 2017 MacBook Air running High Sierra 10.13.3 on an Epson XP-330 printer. I can print cards on 8.5x11 paper in landscape orientation with no problem. But when I ask it to print a 9x12 sheet in landscape orientation, while the sheet looks just fine on the Pages layout, it prints in a twisted position--half the picture runs off the page, and the part that does print is shifted 90 degrees from what it should be. If I change the Page Setup to portrait orientation what i get on the screen looks like what I am getting in the printout. (I have not actually tried printing when it looks like that on the screen.) If any of you have any idea of what I am doing wrong and how I could fix it, I'd appreciate hearing that. Thanks.

It sounds like Pages is losing sight of the dimensions of the sheet when you go to landscape mode thinking that it's 8.5 x 11 which is why the error is occurring. The 9 x 12 sheets are designed for greeting cards? (I ask because it's an odd size.)

I'll have to experiment with Pages to see what I can come up with. I don't normally do greeting cards and most of my card stock work is done with Word on a HP LaserJet. I'm wondering if a template might work better?

I take it that you've set up a 9X12 paper size in Pages' Page Set Up menu?

It would be easy if that was a choice she could make. Unfortunately, Pages does not allow off sizes to be setup nor is the 9 x 12" a size that can be chosen from the page setup menu. The older versions of Pages did allow that. And of course MS Word does also.

I came across the opposite sizing problem last year with both pages 5.x and '09 wanting to make a small 5x7 type size Certificate which I discovered was impossible to do.

The fix: I just rebooted into 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, opened AppleWorks and created and printed out just what I needed and wanted. And done fast too thanks.

Too bad Apple and Steve killed it.

There's no doubt that Pages has been "dumbed" down from previous versions. I still have a copy of iWork 09 which includes the older more capable version of Pages, however, it won't run with High Sierra. I guess folks can't complain too much since Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are now free.

The OP is using Pages 6.3.1, the same as I am.

Go File Menu>Page Setup...>Paper Sizes. Click on the Paper Size bar and then scroll down to the bottom to Manage Custom Sizes. You can now design your own page size.

Have to admit, I never would have thought to look there. I just tried it and you are correct; I was able go define a custom page size of 9 x 12 inches. Great tip and I learned something new about Pages. Thanks...

WOW!!! You mean Apple programmers actually added a useful feature into a Pages update for a change??? Nice, finally.

Pages is actually pretty feature-rich. Not as loaded as Word, maybe, but pretty good for "normal" users. It got a bad rep when the re-write first came out, but they have been steadily increasing the features and capabilities pretty steadily all along. Given that it's free, that's pretty amazing. I think in this case Apple deserves kudos.

I agree with Jake. I've been fairly vocal on how Apple dumbed down the iWork apps but I now have to take that back and give Apple credit.

I wouldn't agree that Pages is actually "free", as many have had to pay for it, and for different versions as well, and for others that got it "included", I would consider that as part of the price of the Mac or iDevice.

But nice of Apple to do that and also nice to hear it has made some good improvements. Finally it seems.

Doesn't matter if you agree or not Patrick, the simple fact is that Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are now free. What Apple has done in the past is now the past. At one time Apple charged a hefty fee for Tiger and Leopard. They were more lenient with Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion, while now every version of macOS is free. Hey, what do you want for nothing, your money back? LOL.

Just like the old circus would holler — "free, free, just pay at the door", and then ask for your money back eh?
