Unable to eject external hard drives
I have MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.1 - which I recently downloaded

I have 3 external hard drives which I mainly use for my photographs
With in the last few weeks I have received an error message that Time Machine was unable to copy photos to the hard drives. see attachments.

I was told to eject the hard drives then restart my computer and then reattach the hard drives.

This I have tried to do - but to no avail. This I have tried numerous times via my desk top and via the finder.

    Please advise

    Welcome to our forums.

Try rebooting your Mac first and then attempt once more to eject the external hard drives. Both of your external hard drives are showing up as "read only" which is why Time Machine will not write to them.

I have previously tried a reboot in Safe mode which made no difference

    Anything else you can suggest?

You might wind up having to erase and reformat both external hard drives. Are those drives only used for backup or do you have other things stored on them? Also, we here do not recommend using Time Machine as the only means of backup. We highly recommend you consider using cloning software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make cloned backups of your data. It means additional hard drives but backup redundancy is preferred when you're working with things you can't afford to lose such as photos or artwork.

After running Disk Utility as suggested, and you need more, try unchecking each volume using the Get Info on each, as per shot below:

You can shut down your Mac then disconnect the drives. Start your Mac back up, then when you re-connect the drives, it may fix the issue.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Thanks for your help. Since posting on the forum have found that my backups on time Machine are now working.

Just of interest I have 2 other Back-up options for my Photos on a OWC3 and on a OW2 and I use Carbon cloning for these.
