HP c4480 scanner -- message that scanner can't be opened because of a problem
Not sure if this is the right place, but I installed some new updates from the app store for my HP printer-scanner, and when I went to open it got a message saying "HP scan can't be opened because of a problem." Anyone else getting this? The updates were installed earlier this month.

@Straitsfan, you'll need to provide some info such as OS X version.

First option is to use your backup and go back to when things were working.

What HP updates did you run???

Does your HP scanner show if you open Image Capture.app?

I can open up the scanner from system preferences and use if from there, as well as Image Capture. I just thought it was strange that I Can't use it with the update. I'll try to copy the app from a previous backup.

Maybe I should ask is there any specific/proper way to install my most previous version of the scanner app to my current applications folder. I just tried a copy and paste but I get the same result.

You still haven't provided us any info as to what OS X version you're running or any other details.

Maybe the old or newer HP scanning software doesn't work with your OS version, but then it shouldn't have shown up in your App Store Updates.

If you're running OS X 10.10+, you can get the latest "HP Easy Scan.app" if that's what you're wanting from here:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/55551/hp-easy-scan

I had an awful time finding stuff at the HP site or even getting things there to work and gave up, but you're more than welcome to try and get some help or software:
    https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c04788799
    or
    https://123.hp.com/ca/en/

But I have a feeling that HP leaves the software and updates up to Apple, but not sure.

PS: You may need to uninstall what you last "pasted" in before doing any other installs.

    EDITnd PS Again:

    NOTICE

I just noticed that your "HP Photosmart c4480" is not even listed as an Apple supported device so not even the "ap store update" you mention makes any sense.
    Somethin's a bit goofy.

    Sorry -- el capitan 10.11.6

It worked fine before the update if that helps, as did previous updates. What i mean is that sometimes when I get updates there will be an HP printer update. But every previous time they installed i had no problem using the scanner.

    Your Mac's Specs
    iMac, i7 4GHz, 32GB memory, 1TB Blade, OSX 14.4 Mojave,
Go to the link below and select "drivers' and it will take you to a page which will detect your operating system and links to drivers.

Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Man, that's some confusing routes they put a user through to try and get some info and/or the proper software.

And adding to that, the comments on the "HP update" are sure NOT very positive at either:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-e...an/id967004861
    or the link:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-e...n/id967004861#

I'd try downloading and installing again either from the links I provided previously or right from Apple:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_CA
or Apple's country site that the OP lives in.

Maybe HP could help if they were contacted???
