Question How to install an old version of OS X?
    Hey guys,
First, English is not my first language, so sorry if i commit any mistake.
Anyway, i have an MacBook Pro (Late 2011) with OS X El Capitan and i want to know if i can downgrade to OS X Mavericks or, principally, OS X Yosemite. If yes, how? I want to do this because i hate the modern design of OS X El Capitan, and i don't mind if i need to delete all my disk. I know that OS X Yosemite have the same design as OS X El Capitan, but i can use the Flavors 2 app to change my user interface, and this app don't run on El Capitan. Mavericks is a little old, and can't run some games an apps, so i prefer Yosemite.
    Thank you.

P.S: I only have OS X El Capitan on my purchased tab on App Store, so i was thinking if i could do an Internet Recovery to downgrade to Lion and so download a torrent with Yosemite and install. If have any better method, please, tell me.

Yes I was going to mention that you COULD downgrade to Mavericks or Yosemite if you downloaded them when they were available (so you could download them again). They are no longer available on Apple servers.

As far as the torrent. We do not discuss or support that sort of activity at Mac-Forums.

That's bad. So, i guess that i will downgrade to OS X Lion and stay there, i hate so much this El Capitan design.
Also, thank you for your answer.

Yosemite is similar to El Capitan. Mavericks was different. But Mavericks is older...and will be the next OS that Apple will no longer support (if not already).

If you REALLY want Mavericks (or Yosemite)...there are folks on eBay selling it. I don't endorse this (there could be risk from a "bad" ebay seller)...just providing you with this idea as a possible solution.

p.s. Word to the wise. Even if you don't need an OS from Apple at the moment. Download it now & save it. Then in the future (when it has disappeared from the Apple servers)...and you want to install it...you will have it in your Mac App Store purchases.

I believe that you can use Apple's Internet Recovery to download the OS X version that came with your laptop. If I am not mistaken, Internet Recovery works on 2010+ laptops, so yours is on that list.

Almost, Internet Recovery was started with Mid-2011 Macs. Specifically Late 2011 MacBook Pro models came with Lion.

Bob is correct. When I purchased my Mid 2011 21.5" iMac it came pre-loaded with Snow Leopard 10.6.6. It wasn't until the late 2011 models shipped that Internet Recovery became available as those all came pre-installed with Lion.

How come my mid-2010 MacBook Pro actually has Internet Recovery then? That's how I installed El Capitan the first time around when I messed up my hard drive, however it took a really long time to download.

My purchased list is showing Mavericks, Yosemite and El Cap as possible downloads. Have these versions actually been removed from Apple's servers or been made unavailable as downloads to people who never had them before?

I like to say "disappeared" from Apple servers when an older free OS is removed when a new OS version is released. It's still there...but only for those folks who "purchased" (free-downloaded) it previously.

I think they are still on the server, and "if you purchased" them gives you access to them. Just like when I went to the Apple Store, he plugged in the ethernet and there were OS versions going back to Tiger, maybe earlier, that they have the option to start from. I see this as the same server, with restricted access.

Not if you didn't already purchase/get/download it. You can not get it now, unless it shows on your Purchased page in the Mac App Store.

Thanks, Bob. I was hoping they would leave a little bit of leeway.

    Next question.

If I find a friend who has the download, is it possible he could send it to me? My whole reason for this is that I want to upgrade from OSX 10.9.5 but as my Canon printer has not yet found a way to support Sierra, I thought I'd try the El Capitan, only to find out it's gone. I'm wondering if what was a free download is allowed to be transferred after Apple "disappears" it.
    Thanks again.
    Tom
