Thread: Installing El Capitan

I have a Macbook Air running OS X Lion, 10.7.5. I have downloaded El Capitan, but when I try to install it I get the error message "OS X cannot be installed on Macintosh HD". What do I do now?

Well did you download from the App Store and the MBA is the one mentioned in your avatar, 2011 model? How much free space is on th hard drive? You are starting the install from the Installer in the Apllications Folder? Have you run Verify over the hard drive from within Disk Utility? If you backup to an external drive, is it disconnected when attempting the install?
