I have Safari 7.0.5, and it looks like I need to update it in order to use Duckduckgo? If so, is there a web site to update Safari?

DuckDuckGo is simply a website with relatively minimal requirements. What happens when you try to open it?

You have to update your OS to Yosemite to get the latest version

I tried to download it, and then a window came up that said it was downloaded.
But--it doesn't show up in Preferences for Safari. Google, Bing and another showup though.

Oh, I didn't want to update to Yosemite as yet. I have enough trouble at this time without another learning curve--namely iPhoto. Is there a forum for iPhoto?

Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

    Tried to download what?
Any app or extension after being downloaded - then needs to be installed...

Since you're running OS X 10.7 - give AnySearch a try - Safari extension with multiple search engine options.

Again, you don't need to update anything to use DuckDuckGo. Simply navigate to the website and you're good to go.

The reference to Yosemite was simply for those who would like to natively set the default search bar in Safari to use DuckDuckGo, as I do.

As VanSmith says, you can easily set DuckDuckGo as your home page, or make a bookmark, or just type it into the URL bar if you are running an older OS or version of Safari.
