No "users & groups" pane in system preferences
Hi I'm rather new to this whole mac thing and I'm beginning to notice some things odd about my computer. I'm am on a macbook air and it is a version 10.8.2. I was looking up a way to have my name to be displayed automatically at login and it always involved going into system preferences and clicking the users and groups prefpane. That really annoyed me as my other friends all knew how to do it. If someone could tell me how to retrieve it or tell me an alternative way to inionioninoin

    please help!

how about a screen shot of the system preferences window?

Is this your machine or is this a school/business owned machine?

Oh is that the problem? This computer was given to me by my school.

Here is the screenshot by the way

Edit: oh that can't be right... How do I attach an image?
And if school computers don't have this feature, can some please tell me an alternative way to show my username at the login screen?

To attache a screen shot you'll need to click on the 'Go Advanced' button below the reply box.

Is the computer school owned? As in, you have to give it back to them at end of school year or whenever or it is now yours to do with as you wish?

There is no telling how the school set up their computers so that "you" the end user could not make any changes to the system they don't want you to be able to make.

Schools often remove some features like that so the user will not click on them and change settings. I have a feeling it's around somewhere though.

As Bob asked, is this your system or the Schools? How many accounts are on it? I bet there is another account with that Users there in System Preferences.

When you boot up does it go right into OSX or is their a Log In screen?

Yes the computer is school owned. But I'm still wondering how all of my friends do it.

I bet your account is set with Parental Controls and that function locked from you. Maybe some people figured out the admin account!

Try hitting the 'Show All' button and see if Users & groups is listed. Otherwise no go.
Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

I tried that already. Nothing showed up.

If there really is no way to retrieve it then i can understand that. But how can I make my username appear at the login screen. Because pretty much everyone in my class has done it.

You might want to ask all the people in your class how they did it.

But it would appear that it's been removed as part of school policy etc.
