All that you have done is create a data dvd. You need a video dvd. Burn will do this for you:
    Burn - Home

m4v files should be OK, but Burn says that it sometimes has problems with protected Quicktime files. m4v files can have DRM protection depending on how you got them. Try changing the extention to mp4.

Does the dvd made with Burn play on your Mac using DVD Player? Not all dvd players accept homemade discs. Have you tried other players?

Also make sure that the blank discs were DVD -R not +R. Make sure yo use the discs that are about 4.7 GB. Some older players do not handle +R discs nor do they handle the 9GB discs.

BTW when you open the burned disc in Finder on your Mac do you see a Video_TS folder? If not that suggests the disc got burned as a data disc not a series of movie files.
