    Mac Pro won't boot
Hi, I'm new here and I hope this is the right forum to post my question.

    My Mac Pro won't boot.

I'm using my Mac Pro for music production and everything went fine until today when I came back from lunch to continue to work.

When I clicked on my mouse a black colored layer came down from the top of the screen like a curtain with a message that said "you have to reboot your computer" the message was displayed in different languages.

-I turned off the computer by pressing and holding the power button
-I waited a while and then I pressed the power button again to turn the computer back on.
-I pressed the power button and the computer seemed to boot (I could
hear the sound of the hard drive as if it wants to boot up and the sound of the fan) but it didn't boot. It didn't even make it to the mac start sound The light comes on but no Mac boot sound or anything.

    Maybe someone can help

    Thank you,

    Ludwig

    *I'm using a Mac Pro 8 core 2.26 Ghz / 12 gig Ram / Mac OS X 10.6*

Your machine experienced a kernel panic which is usually the result of a hardware problem. Have you recently changed any hardware in your Pro, like adding memory, a new graphics card, etc?

What you might wish to do is use your recovery install DVD and run the Apple Hardware Test on your Mac Pro. See this LINK.

Thank you Chscag for your quick reply!

No I haven't changed any hardware on my computer recently. Is this a serious problem?
I will try what you;ve suggested.

    Thank you!

Any chance you have had a power outage whilst away? Reset the CUDA by unplugging from the mains power for fifteen minutes, this resets automatically, and try reboot. Have you been cleaning inside and perhaps one of the memory modules has become unlatched?

Next step is to use the diagnosis LED lights as in this link:-

Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Thank you Harry for your reply.

I finally turned everything off for the night and unplugged everything from the main power. The next morning I came back into my office and turned everything on and it works like nothing ever happened. So apparently unplugging from the main power helped solving this problem.

My question now is: will this happen again? Is something actually broken and I'm working with an unstable computer now? Do I have to take further steps in order to prevent this from happening again?

    Thank you for help!

None of us can answer that even with our own machines my friend. If the Mac Pro is booting and running all looks well. As a suggestion download SMARTReporter and keep the hard drive under surveillance:-
