Two in the OS forum, now my new one in Apps...

Friend is sending attachments, using Outlook, Windows version. Mail puts them in the body of the message, not as attached documents. I looked for a setting in Mail, but didn't see anything related. Maybe I missed it. Yes, my friend insists he is not copying a pdf and pasting it into his message. Can I fix it on my end?

Right click on the attachment in the body of the email, select "View as icon." I have not found a way to make that the default, but it does change the attachment to just an icon of the attachment. I think it's in the way Outlook does attachments.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Unfortunately, the messages with "attachments" are gone. I should have saved one!

I suppose Windows users would say it's the way Mail does attachments...

Yep. I didn't want to blame MS or Apple, it's the incompatibility between them in the way attachments are handled. Apple Mail also tends to send attachments in the text rather than as attachments, so I suspect it's more Apple than MS.

That's true and besides... Apple would prefer you to use "Mail Drop" for attachments rather than the usual way.

I don't rally understand what the problem is.

Most of the emails I receive are from people who use Windows PC's and the only thing I noticed is that the attachment automatically opens on my Mac if the attachment is a single page.
If it's more than one page then it shows as an attachment.
But if I click on "Save Attachments" which is what I normally do, either one, single or multiple attachments is saved in the designated folder.

I don't remember any attachment just showing up randomly in the middle of the email message unless the sender put it there.

The attachment is showing up in the body of the e-mail message, not as an icon you click to open it.

You click on "Save Attachments" where, exactly?

Yes, Jake, when I attach something in Mail, it goes into the message rather than creating an icon for a document. I've gotten used to that. I send lots of photos, so for that, I guess it's kinda nice.

In Apple Mail, after one opens the email, under the file menu
A window then opens up with the pre-selected folder or one can chose a different folder or create a new one.

    I'm on Mail 9.3 on macOS 10.11.6
