Looking for some info on the above. Would you expert people recommend Onyx and purchase the software to the full version?
    Or other similar software.
    Thanks.
David. I have had the latest update but not installed Catalina.Waiting to see that the experts have to say first.

Onyx is an excellent app for routine maintenance, and is free. You can definitely donate to the developer but you aren't required to purchase the app.

Generally, you don't need to do much maintenance on your system if you manage your system with some common sense, i.e., leave enough free space on your machine, keep only the applications you need/use, delete the rest. Get applications only from reputable developers. Run a number of ad/malware blocking extensions in your browser (like uBlock Origin, Ghostery, etc.).

OnyX is a combination of two applications; Maintenance and Deeper. If you don't need the advanced options offered by Deeper then Maintenance is all you need but as stated, the current version is for Mojave or earlier. There is no version for Catalina yet.
Maintenance is simpler to use while still offering custom options and less likely to accidentally cause a problem.
I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.
