Improve printed text readability on PDF (?)
    I have a MacBook Pro (10.13.6) with Adobe Acrobat Reader 2017 012.20098.

I want to print out a PDF which is perfectly readable on the screen but when I print, the text is so faint as to be unreadable. It's a form with text that had been typed using a manual typewriter - its ribbon was past its best at the time. I've tried using "plain paper best" but this is no better; the same applies to a screen shot.

Is there any way I can being the faint text up to readable quality?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Can you scan the document agin using different settings? Or, can you re-type the document using any text app on your MBP?

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

I have found that Genius Scan on my iPhone is sometimes more legible than docs scanned with my flatbed scanner. It uses the camera (obviously) and enhances the image automatically. You can then email the doc/image to yourself as a PDF directly from the app.

@Mikeo1938 - Is there actually a document you can scan again as is suggested.
Sounded to me like you just have the pdf, not an original paper copy, and when you open it on the screen the text is perfectly legible but when printing it's very faint and not legible.

If that is the case, one thing you can try is to save one of the pdf pages as an image (jpg or tiff) in Preview and then sharpen the text and also make it darker (tools > Adjust Color)

But if the text is readable on the screen but not when printed, wouldn't that be a problem with your printer?

That was my thought as well.

Just as a quickie fix, what about trying to put the printed copy back through the printer and print it again to the same copy a few times.

It sounds like one of the inkjet printer's cartridges is goofy, assuning that it is an injet printer being used.

Also, if there is an option, besides not only using "best" but als use "Photo quality" as well. That should force the printer to use the photo cartridge settings and some printers use a special Black Photo Cartridge, especially if they use two black ink cartridges as many photo inkjet printers do.

And as already suggested, try using Preview.app to open and print the PDF.
