    Getting Thunderbird to update automatically
I use Thunderbird not Mail. I like Thunderbird and find it wasier to use BUT everytime it tries automatically to update - which I want to happen, it gets stopped by my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15', Mitte 2014)16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. How can I override this annoying feature and allow Thunderbird to update automatically? Hope someone knows......

I don't use Thunderbird, but do you get a notification that an update is available? Does it download the update?

One place to check is in System Preferences > Security & Privacy. What is selected for "Allow apps downloaded from:"? You may need to change that setting for it to work.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Yes I am told an update is there but it cannot be installed so I have to go and get it manually and over ride the mac's desire to prevent me using it!

Sorry me again, where do I find system preferences? Not helped by the fact that my computer is German but if I know where to look I'll find it!

System Preferences is usually right in the dock. It is a silver gear icon. If it is not there it is under the Apple icon in the top Menu bar on the left.

Be aware that if you defeat the Gatekeeper process and let software automatically update you are leaving your computer open to malware and bogus updates by bad actors. It's your call, but personally I wouldn't do it.

That's strange... once Thunderbird is installed and you have auto updates selected from within the app, you should not get stopped by GateKeeper. I use Thunderbird for News (NNTP) and have never had GateKeeper pop up when installing updates.
