So I just got back from a day trip to the mountains, it was our wedding anniversary, we had a picnic with friends, so I had 47 pics on my iPhone. Once back on my WiFi network I thought I would review the pics in My Photo Stream on the MBP. Of course I knew they wouldn’t all be there immediately but there were 3. Then it occurred to me that there is no way to tell if the rest are loading or not. No progress bar, no circular pie graph, no spinning arrow or wheel, nothing. I know it’s downloading because I have Menu Meters on the menu bar with internet activity displayed so I can see the peaks in activity between pictures but there is no other way.
I have always felt Apple were a bit stingy with their progress displays, Time Machine is another example, sometimes it just sits with a full display bar and “Preparing Backup” written below. No way to tell how long it will take of if indeed it’s just stuck. If you come back two hours later and it’s still “Preparing Backup” then you know something is wrong, otherwise well, you just don’t know.
I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary and hope you had an enjoyable trip.

As far as the Apple user interface has been going lately it can't go much lower AFAIC and some other long time Mac users I know. As for you recent experience, for all I know, they may have included some stupid hidden Cheshire cat type popup that only shows when you just happen to mouse over and pause over some magic spot that might show any progress. Just maybe… somewhere…

Yes, a little bit of feedback would be nice.
Maybe an OSX version of Siri, then I could just ask, "What are you doing at the moment Siri? And how long do you estimate it will take to complete?"

Ah well, perhapes we have to wait for a real AI to be incorporated into the OS. In the mean time I did submit my suggestion to Apple for whatever good that may do.
