Upgrading to OS X El Capitan - will MS Office for MAC 2008 work?
I only use Word, Excell and Powerpoint and have lots of existing files for them. The 2008 version does everything I need and I don't want to buy new office software if I can avoid it.
Are there problems with these applications under El Capitan? Are there fixes or work arounds?

I am using an iMAC early 2009 vintage. Apple has told me it is good for the El Capitan upgrade.

If you google it you will find it will work fine. I use Office 2011 so I am not speaking from personal experience. There may be others that will chime in that have done it. But from what I read it will work.

And you should be fine upgrading to El Capitan BUT be sure to backup first!

As Lisa stated, Office 2008 will work with El Capitan. However, one thing to keep in mind... Microsoft is no longer issuing security updates to Office 2008 and earlier versions of Mac Office. They just recently extended security updates to Office 2011 for another two years. I recommend if possible, to purchase Mac Office 2011.

I have been thinking of updating to Office 2016. The cheapest price I have found so far is at B&H Photo. From what I have been reading the upgrade is impressive and a big improvement over 2011. I have Office 2013 for Windows on my Windows work computer and it has a lot of features that Office 2011 for mac lacks. Supposedly Office 2016 for Mac now includes a lot of those features plus a cleaner and more user friendly interface - less guessing "where did they put that?" kind of thing.

    Hi Lisa:

I have Office 2016 which I purchased at a slight discount but I continue to use Office 2011. My reasons: Office 2016 currently lacks the ability to modify the Ribbon or the Quick Menu and uses a separate font folder for each of its apps rather than a single font folder as in Office 2011. There are also some other things with Powerpoint that are missing which were in Office 2011. I can't comment on Excel because I no longer have a reason to use it. My advice to you before purchasing is to read through the MS Mac Office Forums on the MS server and see what others are saying. If you already have Office 2013, you have the best version of Office to date (in my humble opinion).

I like Office 2013 but it is on my Windows computer which I only use at work. But your right - I really like it. I was hoping 2016 for mac would be more like 2013 for Windows.

I do not use power point anymore. The only time I encounter it is if a visiting speaker brings one to use. I do use excel a lot and I mess the features I have in the 2013 version. I will check out the office forums. I haven't bought it yet.

It'll work no problem. I use Office 2008 with El Capitan occasionally with no issues (I mostly use Pages)
