iLife 05 or 09 on iBook?
The title pretty much sums it up. My iBook is not too fast, just 512MB RAM, and I don't need to do anything fancy in GarageBand, just the simple stuff, record and play back with a few layers. Should I get iLife 05 or 09?

You didn't tell us the processor type (G3 or G4) or the processor speed of your iBook...but given what you mentioned so far...iLife 05 would probably be better. iLife 09 requires 1 gig of ram (you have 512 meg)...and there are other requirements (bit cannot comment on those since not enough info on your computer).

Here are the system requirements for iLife 09:

    iLife '09: System requirements

Take a special note of this requirement:

"GarageBand Learn to Play requires an Intel-based Mac with a dual-core processor or better."

...your iBook does not have an Intel cpu.

Not sure where you're going to find iLife 05...other than e-Bay.

Thanks so much for your help. It's a G4 iBook, grey and white. The processor is 1.33GHz. Sounds like it makes the most sense to go with iLife '05, which, like you said, I'll be buying off of eBay. Thank you!

As with most programs...newer versions have updated features...but also usually need more computing "horse power".

Something else to consider. There's also an iLife 06 and iLife 08...so maybe one of those versions could be a better balance of features & system requirements for you than going all the way back to iLife 05.
