    Upgrade iPhone 6 or Not?
    Hello group,

I am still using an iPhone 6, therefore unable to upgrade to the latest iOS. My quandary is should I upgrade to the latest model or not. Realizing this is a personal decision, I just would like to get some feedback/thoughts from other Apple users. I switched over to Mac/Apple in 2012. Still must use MS at my office but am much happier in the Apple environment.
    Cheers and Beers to all!

If you could afford the upgrade, and the 6 is still exchangeable according to tv ads, I would upgrade.

Are there features in the latest iOS (iOS 13) that you really need? If not...your iPhone 6 will continue to run fine for years runinng iOS 12.

I tend to keep my Apple devices for a long time...I tend to only purchase used Apple hardware...and many times I will continue using these Apple devices long after the last iOS/macOS version they are capable of running is communicated.

If you don't need or are not interested in any of the new features of iOS 13...no need to rush out and purhase a brand new $700 (or much more) iPhone just so you can run iOS 13. Don't unnecessarily get caught up in the vicious cycle of..."I got to upgrade...I got to upgrade...I got to upgrade"...just because Apple says so!"

I had Iphone 5 (8 gb) for a few years. Last free upgrade with ATT contract. It just about killed me to buy a phone, but I went ahead and upgraded to iPhone 10 with tons of storage. I wanted to be able to listen/store podcasts and also use Apple CarPlay. Now I am very glad I did it. I thought the larger size would be cumbersome for me but it still fits in a pocket (sort of).

A big factor for me is size. I have a iPhone 7 running iOS 13.3.1 it is the 4.7" model and I consider it the perfect size. I like you, had thought of upgrading for compatibility into the future but that would mean the iPhone 8 or later. All of which are larger and with the iPhone X series have no Home Button either, something I still like. I have decided to stick with this model until I have to upgrade but of course I am running the current iOS which has distinct advantages syncing to macOS 10.15.3 Catalina.
So If I was going to advise you I would say maybe see if you could upgrade to a iPhone 7 a second hand or refurbished model and keep your 6 as a spare. I doubt if it would have much resale value.

I was at the local Apple Store this weekend while my wife was negotiating for a refurbished iWatch. I too have an iPhone 6, and the new iPhone looked attractive so I looked at the trade in price for my 6. $20 was the offer.

    I'll stick with my 6....

Apple recently lowered the trade in price for all its devices. You're much better off selling your older iPhone locally or maybe even on Craig's List.

We never trade in our older Apple devices but rather give them away to a needy person.

From a trade-in perspective, anything beyond the last 2 or 3 generations will get you next to nothing. The entire trade-in "gimmick" is largely for people who upgrade every year, that's where you get the "most" for your device to put against the new one. If you don't fall into that category, then trade-in's don't make any sense. You can try CL or other such places, but when it comes to phones, people usually tend to want to the newer versions, so you're looking at a very limited demand base.

That being said, if your impetus to upgrade is purely driven by wanting to upgrade, and not by some specific feature you want, I'd stick with what Nick suggested and stick with your iPhone 6.

Realize that the iPhone 11 is likely 10x more powerful than your 6 and has lots of new features that you should check out to help making the decision to upgrade or not.

I'd say Charlie's generous method is one of the best for any surplus iPhone. And maybe include a decent block of one year, non-expiring prior Cell phone time they could use.
